Hey all - This morning I went to unlock my passenger side door and the door stayed locked and the locking cylinder just spun around 360 (took a moment for me to figure out how to get my key out, too)!

Does anyone have any diagrams or any info about the locking cylinders on the early A's? I'll obviously have to take the door card off and see what happened, but I always like to do some research before I begin

Thanks

Should be a rod on the back of the cylinder, but the cylinder should be stationary. You either dropped the rod out of the little arm or lost the cylinder retainer. Should be an easy fix once you figure out the door handle release on the inside. If it's not a simple allen head bolt it's an escutcheon behind the handle that you need to push off or a c clip

Thanks for that - i'm just gathering what i can before i start digging

Either, as has been mentioned, the actuating rod has disconnected or the tab on the back of the cylinder has gotten loose. (photo attached) Some versions had the tab held in place by a screw and a star washer instead of a clip. Those could work loose over time.

ah i see - one of those two for sure came loose - what i forgot to mention is i heard a click sound as i was turning the key right behind the lock cylinder. I'll have to dig in and see what happened. Thanks for the picture
