Knock off cal-trac bars.....hmmmm

I have Competition Slide a Links on my car with Super Stock bc springs. Same as those or cal tracks. Kim
I always liked those they seemed like cutting a technology back then that everyone copied some of their style....competition engineering always had good pricing...from shocks to cages to slide a links.....they were like the new Moroso for a while....until some soldier named a John Calvert got deemed suspension guru 2.0......well thats another story...he definitely did the R&D......kudos

Just got my knock off cal-trac bars in and they seem to be very good.. heavy duty, decent welds, and powder coated...says made in New Jersey...only paid $155....and if I could have affordedthe real deal $476...I would have gotten them...my question is should they work with oem leafs or are mono-leafs or split mono leafs required...kinda on a budget and need advice....going on 71 duster with factory 6 leaf 340 springs....
This, below, from Carnut68.

The CalTrac or like system works with any spring. John Calvert will tell you that the monitoring works best. Work actually does, IDK. There’s a few guys here running them, they can tell you best. From what I remember, (that means double and triple check me) the mono spring was better from reports here.
That's what I have, nice stuff. Works with any spring.

Agree Afco split mono all the way to set them up properly

What I heard is that the calverts don't work well with super stock springs, that they work against each other. I think your stock springs will work okay.
I'm not a fan of the mono leafs, prejudiced I guess by the factory versions on the seventies camaros and novas. (They didn't work for s#@t with any power).

One of these days I’ll get to try mine out hopefully. Caltracks, Chevy length springs, and 2400.00 worth of rear spring.

I’m not understanding how they work against each other since the SS spring front half is not supposed to twist into an S shape with its extra springs. The Caltracs are a limiter of this.

Regardless, each work well enough.

I don't understand either. But what I heard from a Calvert rep at the races (winternats and world finals) is that the combination is not recommended.
Edit: my guess? The very stiff front segment restricts movement and leverage, of the caltrac bars.

Like the idea and probably true.
I’m sure that’s why the split mono leaf was designed.

I’ve been running them with SS springs for a couple of years, no problems.

Have a set of their mono leafs in the spare bedroom that I picked up, thanks to a friendly member with Summit discount coupons. Will swap them out once I see how the new motor and Dice converter works out so I can compare any improvements.

That’s just Calvert trying to sell springs.

There is a huge thread on yellowbullet about caltracs and similar devices. Several guys (I think they were Stock racers) said they went from conventional leaf springs to a single mono leaf and a split mono and they didn’t see anything.

Once you bolt that bar on the bottom of the spring you effectively now make the spring do nothing but hold the car up.

Cal Tracks (or similar) work by bending the leaf springs down and raising the body of the car up. If the leaf spring pack is too thick or too strong like SS springs or the XHD springs, they cannot do that as effectively. They are made to work best with monoleafs. It's a lot easier for them to manipulate the monoleaf spring.

I was told not to use both together. But I already had them bolted in. Converter flashes to 4200. 1.451 sixty foot times. It I do have problems when the track isn’t prepped good. I have mine with zero peel ones on the drivers side and 1 turn preload on the passenger side. Kim
