But then on the NExT intake swap, you'll spend and extra hour with crowbars getting it loose ????
At least an extra hour for that bullshit. I hate it.

Ford Clevelands saw 9000 plus RPM on the back stretch at Talladega and they all had cast cranks.I agree with the external balancing, wish they were internal balanced. As for the cast crank, no sweating that. People going 450-500 hp for years and never hurt the crank. Some have taken the cast cranks to 9's in the 1/4 without failure.
I wonder truly why the exact reason(s) they ditched the 383 and went to the 400? I know the petro embargo and all, but the 400 wasn't about mpg. I can't imagine they thought it would be better for the EPA. Why?
I believe they actually wanted to standardize the BB bore. 4.32 like the 440. That would have made the 383 a 396 which would have been awesome to compete with the Chevy guys. However, marketing thought 400 sounded better so 4.34 bore it was. But just maybe somebody on the inside messed up in die castings, who knows for sure... lolMaybe they wanted a few extra cubes in an attempt to make up for the drop in compresion?
Probably to have a competitor cid wise with ford and chevs offerings around the same size and probably also distance it from the 360 more.I wonder why the exact reason(s) they ditched the 383 and went to the 400? I've heard that was the reason. Unleaded fuel would require lower compression, and the extra cubes would help offset it. The timing roughly coincides with the other changes made to accommodate unleaded, ie. hardened valve seats.Maybe they wanted a few extra cubes in an attempt to make up for the drop in compresion?
hot damn! hylomar will seal anything but the crack in your ***, that stuff is no joke.Don't need that crap on a big block.
I just use hylomar.
Almost sounds like you've tried that. No, I don't wanna know.hot damn! hylomar will seal anything but the crack in your ***, that stuff is no joke.

*pfft*I’m with RRR. I’ll take a hard pass on that offer.
383s came with dana 60s ?Back in the day..the 60s,70s,80s,90s...... Chargers with 440 auto and 3:32 gears!?s etc. I wonder just how many times I saw a 383 RR with 4 speed, 3:54 gears out run the Charger/ No track, just south Ga. blacktop/
A 383 never had a Dana.383s came with dana 60s ?
440 chargers with 3.23s were slow as well look it up tug boats
I knew thatA 383 never had a Dana.
Only 440 4 speeds and all Hemi’s got a Dana.
I knew that
I figured you did by the post. I added mine just in case someone didn’t know. You might be surprised who doesn’t know that.
Not all Hemis got Danas. Lots of automatics got 8.75s which were standard on many Hemi cars unless optioned up.A 383 never had a Dana.

... I didn't want to do the swap on my numbers matching '74 Duster 360 4M car so the motor went away, too.
Works real well sealing big block intakes, just a thin bead is all that's needed.hot damn! hylomar will seal anything but the crack in your ***, that stuff is no joke.
A 440 Charger would leave your 340 Dart in the dust just past the stripe and heading on the freeway . Not even close.440 chargers with 3.23s were slow as well look it up tug boats
whos said anything about 440 darts they were 13.71@104 traction limtedA 440 Charger would leave your 340 Dart in the dust just past the stripe and heading on the freeway . Not even close.
A 440 A-Body with headers would leave you like your standing still. IDGOF what you think or the rag sheets say.
Was my understanding they had even higher gears 2.94s or 2.76sThe 440-3.23 B bodiies were top enders in my neck of the woods. These were about the only cars that we would outrun the State Patrol in. In 1970 the county I lived in-the County Sheriff and 3 or 4 Deputies drove 70 Charger R/T's and Coronet R/T's, all with 440 and 3.23 gears. I once heard they never got outrun in. It was pretty cool to see Hi-Impact color 440 cars with the bubble gum lights on top.
