Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

Well the trans mount is a new old part I've had laying around forever so I think it's OK and the crossmember is stock but I will definitely keep that in mind. Re-reading this morning I realized one thing I have failed to do is to loosen the block-to-bracket bolts. I've only been loosening the...

Identifying my Current 15 Inch Wheels - and thoughts about wheel replacements

so, my duster's 7.25" is 57.125" wide, drum to drum, assuming your rear is about the same. IF you like the wheels, but want to tuck them in, here are a couple potential lower cost options that might be cheaper than new rims: if you get an explorer 8.8 rear and do the trick where you shorten...

Doug's headers not fitting - frustration

Great attitude! I am following along and it definitely seems the engine is not aligned properly in the engine bay. I don't think its the headers so I wouldn't bend them up yet. Here's something else to check I was thinking that maybe the transmission mount is bad or the crossmember is dropped...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

So, a note of caution, when you put it back together. Make sure the pushrods are seated in the center of the lifter. Due to the small blocks crazy lifter angle, you can have the pushrod sitting were the lifter body and plunger meet. Off center, that can hold the valve open or it reduces your...

    Where to go next?

Man I did so much riding on that beach and in the dunes. I did the last half of my senior year of high school in Arroyo Grande, but lived in Shell Beach because my Dad got transferred from Susanville CA. to the Mens Colony in SLO. We lived about 80 miles north of Tahoe in the mountains up till...

    383 Piston slap

Wow .008 with a cast piston. I just had to hone a block to .003 over recommended bore finish size for cast pistons. Customer wanted it to stay with a .040 overbore but it had locked up at some point and there was aluminum transfered on the cylinders and a bunch of surface rust. ( Car 351 Windsor...

    What happened to the nova?

Duster’s are nice cars no doubt BUT it really gets my goat when someone calls my DART a Duster, it’s a Dodge not a Plymouth. Sorry just erks me.

    383 Piston slap

I'm surprised that piston manufacturers haven't had an "in between" alloy developed yet, with the great qualities from both 2618 & 4032. I had to have my 4032 pistons coated from line2line coatings and run .0015 p/w clearance with gas ported total seal top rings. The previous machinist didn't...

    904 torque converter recommendations?

I’m in the same boat right now, but I just want another converter to play with. I’d used Lenny Crouteau since 94 (1st Dynamic, then TCT, and Ultimate) but he’s sold the business and retired. There’s a guy out here in the west (Dice) that some guys use. Might give him a shot. Sometimes I wish...

    Motor assembly equipment Recommendations

Not sure what you're building but lots of people have gotten away with a decent torque wrench, a good set of feeler gauges and some plastigauge for literally decades. I am sure I'll get hammered for suggesting such ham fisted methods, but they work.
