there is a voltage limiter in the fuel gauge 5 volts I think if its bad none of the gauges will work. good luck

always run mine at .028/.032 a little noisy from what I understand tighter or looser changes your cam timing slightly due to opening valves sooner [tighter] or later [looser]

may need a fuel pressure regulator my 340 6 bbl would do the same thing I have mine set at 4 psi otherwise it would just flood the needle and seat just wouldn't stop the fuel after it got hot

Check to make sure your fluid level isn't overfilled when the fluid gets hot it expands and if its overfull it has no where to go so it will apply the brakes. I'd pull it and make sure all pieces are out and to make sure the oil pump is ok, onetime the drive sleeve was cracked on the oil pump hex I made a priming too with a old distributor shaft to keep the top centered it worked a lot better
