    1969 Valiant Diary

So I sent a request to the State of California for a title search. I have no idea how far they go back, but it'll be $5 per record. We'll see what pops up. I'm also sending the State of Nevada a request as well.. This will also be the first weekend for a swap meet in Fowlerville, MI. I've...

    1969 Valiant Diary

Considering that most of the clip says "67 Valiant" in yellow grease pen, I'm pretty certain it's a '67 clip. The left apron has definitely been replaced and the upper cowl on the left is buckled in. As for the dash, the '69 I had thirty years ago had roller knobs for the radio. This one does not.

A '67 grille I can get NOS. The '69 not so much. I'm thinking of putting the shark-tooth Duster grille on it.

    1969 Valiant Diary

After JNEW4008 brought up the tires and seat yesterday, I got rid of the little donut tires on the fronts and put the new lug nuts I got from Rock Auto and the 'new wheels' on so the car actually has a stock stance. I got the seat in the garage but neglected to get a photo of it. It will have to...

    1969 Valiant Diary

The next thing to do is the condition of the car. The floor has a big hole in the left floor and the cowl has been bashed in. The dash is out of a '67 Valiant and so is the entire front clip. Judging by the cowl and the radiator support, I'm guessing the front end has been hammered at least twice.

    1969 Valiant Diary

Patience Grasshopper :D . On Saturday I took my photos documenting the way the car ended up at my home. If I'm doing this at work for an insurance company, I get photos of the VIN, the trim tag, all four corners of the car, the license plate and the odometer.

Thanks going out to Dana67Dart and Jnew4008! Dana passed on the link to download the parts manuals for free. What a deal! And Jnew drove up from Cleveland with some wheels and a '68 bench seat. We had a great lunch at Jellibee (Filipino fast food). It was a great couple of hours. Thanks guys!

    1969 Valiant Rubber Flooring

So it's been 30 years since I owned a '69 Valiant 100 with rubber flooring. I just realized the new project also has rubber flooring. I'm sure I know the answer, but does anyone sell the rubber flooring vs carpeting? As a sleeper, I'd like to keep the rubber flooring.

    1969 Valiant Diary

One thing at a time. After working as an insurance adjuster and a body shop writer, I actually want to take stock in what I have. The car has been hammered in the front at least once and maybe twice. I want to get the car cleaned up as best I can and then go over the rest of it to see what the...

    1969 Valiant Diary

I want a good, dependable street car I can take to the track. Which track? I haven't decided yet. I ran SCCA ITB for a few years with a Suzuki Swift. I've also bracket raced on more than a few occasions. I have no front seat at this time. I'm inclined to find a bench seat. As for the dash, I'll...

I like this idea. I know that there are adapter plates for the GM transmissions to fit behind just about anything. I'll have to look into it.

    1969 Valiant Diary

When I got home tonight it was still sunny and a comfortable 55*. I got the hood opened and cleaned up the trim tag. This car is as base as base can be. The only option was the 904 automatic transmission. I've never had a Chrysler product with a two line trim tag. My 1971 Sport Fury GT had a...

    1969 Valiant Diary

Nope. This one was on Marketplace. The car isn't too bad as a shell, but just about everything else needs replacing. A quick question though. What radio do you have on your '69? I had a '69 Valiant with the Spring Special package (I feel special now :)). It had the thumb wheel roller knobs on...

    1969 Valiant Diary

Welcome to my diary. This will cover my exploits of my newly purchased 1969 Plymouth Valiant 100. First lets say this car is a turd. It's solid, but still a turd. I bought the car from a guy in Las Vegas and dragged it back to Detroit (see photo). This car had two lug nuts per wheel. I have...

    Hello Again?

I've been a lurker on this forum for many years, It's time for something more. I bought a '69 Valiant 2-Dr sedan in Las Vegas last Friday and towed the remains back to the Detroit suburbs over the weekend. A long drive it was. To start, each wheel was held on by two lug nuts. Guess what my first...

    Drive Shaft Nuts

So I'm driving out to Vegas and towing home a '69 Valiant 2-dr sedan with a tow dolly. I want to pull the drive shaft. What socket or wrench size do I need at the U-Joints at the rear axle? 1/2"? 9/16"? I don't want to leave the drive shaft in. Thanks in advance.

    Castrol synthetic or Valvoline?

I know the thread is a couple weeks old, but I'll put in my .02. I've use Mobil 1 in my race car and street cars and have never had an oil related failure. My last two cars have used it from purchase to grave. My '01 Ranger had 273,000 miles on it before I totaled it. My current ride is a '10...

    ring and pinion ratio suggestion

MOST Chryslers used 3.23's in the axle. It's a decent compromise between driving it around town and having a bit of grunt taking off. I have two Studebakers with Dana 44's. One is a factory 4-Speed and that has a 3.31. The other has a GM 4L60E trans and a 3.54. That trans came out of late '90's...
