    1968 '340' Barracuda vs 1968 '383' Road Runner

True, to a point. Some of those magazine test cars got some small slicks for the tests, and they still ran in the 14's. I had the lowest HP 383 ever manufactured, with 60,000 miles on the clock, a 120,000 mile trans, and 2.76 gears. I would have thought to see a greater spread in times. Even...

    1968 '340' Barracuda vs 1968 '383' Road Runner

The mid-high 14 second times of these performance cars is interesting. Some while back, I put together a 383 1972 Valiant 4 door. I used only the finest in used junk, a 60,000 mile 1965 383 2 bbl. engine, no internal mods at all beyond lapping in the valves. It was a good thing I pulled the...

    Can C-body manifolds be used?

I did a 72 Valiant with a 383, used C-body log manifolds. It had column shift/power steering. I did swap out the big steering column knuckle for a smaller swivel joint, as the drivers manifold dumped right there. I cobbled my own engine mounts together.

rumors from an old timer to a newbie

As far as the heads already on your '74 vintage engine, they will flow as much or more as any other factory head. The pistons in that engine are the cause of the lower compression rating. While it is true a few casting number heads have smaller combustion chambers and will raise your...

    Its alive!

I figured. My car doesn't have T-bars any more, and the headers actually do lightly touch my mini starter. The car was slated for my 440, but the 383 came along cheap, so in it went with the big headers. Sounds like the T-bars would have been an issue for me. Thanks.

    Its alive!

What size primary tubes on your TTI's? I used the 2" ones on my 383, which aren't supposed to fit. Are the ports raised on the Edelbrock heads at all?

    Nice burnout tracks

Aaah, they make tires every day. :) the end of the burn still shows some tread left, so you quit too soon.

What can you get for $2500?

The trans is out, (4 speed), but I did get it running well with no more than a battery and gas. '71 Duster, stick, good black bucket seat interior, needs carpet and dash pad, (came with a nice black pad), good running '68 340, 8-3/4" rear with Sure-Grip 3.91 gears, old slotted mags, disc...

    Automatic Ratchet Shifters

Dunno about a Mopar, but we got a Hurst Pro-Matic II into the console of my nephews '66 Mustang. Had to trim the console a bit, and use an after market leather boot over the stick, but it worked.

    1969 440 Dart build

I'm betting it's got a lean surge. The 750 I consider on the small side with your combo. If I understand it correctly, you have a "dry flowed" carb. It flows 750 cfm of air, but closer to 650 cfm's when fuel is going through it. I had a similar combo in a '67 dart, same compression, ported...

Is a Mongrel Jeep build thread welcome?

My nephew runs an FJ-40, and yes it's a pork chop compared to my Jeep. It also runs circles around me in the woods. If you were after straight line performance, the ligher Jeep has got to get the nod. With no body/chassis mods, keeping it under 2,800 with a small block should be easy. For...

Is a Mongrel Jeep build thread welcome?

I have a '69 CJ-5, 4 WD, factory V-6, (Buick design), with a heavy SM-420 swap, and at least another 100 pounds of "additionals". Weight is just over 2,600 pounds.

Steel Shim Gasket on a 383? any difference?

I calculated a .030" over bore, a .020" negative deck height, (mine was, yours may be more or less), and a 90 CC cylinder head, (again, might be more or less), and with a .039" composite gasket, you are at 8.66/1 compression. Substituting the .020" steel shim gasket, it comes to 9.01/1...

    Members Burn Outs

http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh83/dubber123/?action=view&current=004-Copy2-Copy-Copy-Copy-Copy-Copy-Copy.mp4 Re-ringed 383, .460" cam, stock rockers, headers. The 3.91 gears in this video killed the car, and are coming out shortly.

    Stoke stroke 383 horsepower

I've been fooling with a 383 for a bit now, and have some suggestions. Do a BUNCH of checking/measuring before buying pistons. 383's are a pain to get compression out of, and don't tell me "they were 10.0 to 1 stock" because they sure weren't. :) I have flat tops with NO valve reliefs, and...

    hillbilly fix its.

Lessee, a few I have personally cobbed: I had a /6 I put a .530" lift solid in, but even after greatly reducing the cup on the pushrod, I couldn't get it in adjustment. It needed shorter pushrods. I cut sections from a bead lube bucket, and installed them as spacers to move the rocker shaft...

    Some good deals still exist

I will try and get some pics this weekend. Don't get me wrong, it's no creampuff, but it's pretty darned good for the money. I've never owned a stick car, so I'm going to try and leave it 4-speed. ( A big block swap is planned).

    Some good deals still exist

I thought I would share my recent purchase with you, which I consider a good deal. I live in Vt., so any decent older Chrysler product is pretty hard to find. My job sent me to a new area recently, and 100 feet off the main road, a blue Duster sat with a faded for sale sign in the windshield...

    Why cars rust

A few years ago, I had a 67 Belvedere shipped out from Oregon. I paid $750 for the car, so it was no show piece. When I picked it up, It was totally rust free, in the trunk, under the hood, bumpers were still nice... This car had spent the last few years under a pine tree, and had about 4" of...

    Mini Tub or Not?

Mini tubbed is an awesome look in my opinion. My Barracuda has a full tub, but I think the mini is a better look on many of the body styles, the Valiants included. It's not hard to do at all if you are even reasonably handy.

    whats the weight on a 67 cuda with a 318/904 trans ?

My '67 Fastback /6 904 weighed 2,860 on 2 different scales. The slant is only slightly lighter than a 318.
