    voltage problem 74 duster

Are there relays on the pump and fans? If not there is a big problem. Is the factory wiring harness still being used or is it an aftermarket style? Stock voltage regulator?

    Factory fuse block replacement

I had the same issue on my Duster and I went to Napa and got two universal fuse blocks. One for constant 12V and one for switched. This also swapped the glass fuses our for the larger ATO blade type fuses which are easier to find and it also gave me more circuits to add accessories.

    msd or mopar hei ?

My vote is for the MSD...I run a 6AL box, Blaster coil and their billet dist. I love it and has performed flawlessly for 5 years now.

Panel lamps out - fuse OK

Wasn't there a voltage regulator on the cluster that dropped the voltage down for the lights and such....maybe that went bad or the terminal are corroded?

    Mini Starter

There are HD versions of the contacts that will last a lot longer and have less voltage drop available too.

    Mini Starter

95% of the failures on those Nippondenso starters is the contacts wear out. Any shop that rebuilds them will have contacts on hand adn should sell them to you. I always replace the plunger when I do the contacts just to be safe and it's only a couple of bucks more.

    HEI style distributor cap

I have an HEI style cap on my MSD distrbutor.....I like that collar that lets you put a Magnum dap on the old dist.....that's nice.

    New Wiring Harness

If you want a factory style harness I would contact Bill and Rose Evans. http://evanswiring.tripod.com/ If you don't care then a Painless harness is the way to go but you will have to use some of the factory bulb connections or go to Napa and get some new ones to put on the new harness.

    electrical demons

One of the best things I ever did was put on one of the MP constant voltage regulators.....I am always above 12 volts at idle even with the electric fuel pump and fan and head lights on. You need to add up all the amps of your accesories and find out if the alt can provide enough current. You...

    HEI vs. Mopar Box

I agree with the high RPM performance issue but my car starts so much better with the MSD. It idles cleaner also but that is because of the multi-spark like you said. I also think the MSD is a cleaner and easier system than the MP stuff and that is probably because my wiring was all hacked up...

    HEI vs. Mopar Box

Another nice benifit of the MSD box is the built in rev-limiter.

    HEI vs. Mopar Box

I agree with the above posts.....get a MSD 6AL box, MSD billet dist and never look back. I love that set-up and she cranks for a second and fires right up. Not one lick of problems in 2 years.

    Dizzy Problems

The bad optical pick-up would cause it to not have spark........

    Dizzy Problems

IIRC Mallory was having a problem with a bad batch of the optical pick-up sensors in the Dist.......if the hot-wire trick doesn't work that might be it.

    How Much Gap?

I run my 9:1 CR 318 with a MSD 6AL box and MSD billet dist at .040 gap.....I used to run .045 but with the nitrous I dropped it back to .040 and I fell it runs better N/A with the .040 gap.

    my nightmere (msd)

Hey Matt make sure the 12V switched wire you have the MSD hooked up to is actually getting 12V when you are cranking. I had mine hooked up like that and it wouldn't work cause the blue wire coming from the factory harness wasn't throwing 12V when the starter was cranking. I am not running the...

    Starter problems

Well I pulled the starter and used a jumper wire......well the drive gear kicks out and pins but that was with now resistance......if the drive gear was bad would it still do that? Is it stripped or something inside and with no restistance does that allow it to spin? My teeth are fine on the...

    Starter problems

well I checked and it is like $50 for parts or around $70 - $120 to have mine rebuilt. I found another shop here that sells rebuilds for $76 so i just bought a rebuilt one. I'll keep mine and maybe rebuild it myself for a spare. The guy at the shop said the drive was shot but the sounds of...

    Starter problems

I put a mini starter in my car this spring. It came out of a '95 Dodge Ram. Anyway I got my motor fired up for the first time this year...got the timing set and all that good stuff now the the starter just spins.....won't engage the TC ring gear......I replaced the plunger and contacts when I...
