340 8 bolt crank info wanted

Sounds like you are on the right track. I did just balance my 340 flywheel and mcleod pressure plate as a unit and was surprised at how much weight it took to correct it. If the flywheel and clutch doesn't change the vibration, it is possible they may have messed up the calculation for the...

340 8 bolt crank info wanted

If you have the heads off you can measure the stroke. That will give you some more info. Did it come with a balancer? You can tell if it was a externally balanced from that. Likely if it is an aftermarket steel crank it will be internally balanced

    W2 Street Dominator

They have a passage under the plenum that flows engine coolant through. Common mod to these was to block that off with epoxy. It goes against the thoughts of keeping the intake cool for max HP.

How do you use the C-3053 burnishing tool?

I haven't seen the tool, but burnishing a bushing usually requires the tool to be drawn through the ID of the bushing with the bushing in place. It deforms the bushing into the bore. It sizes the ID as well as fits the OD to the bore. Thin walled bronze valve guides are fitted and sized this way.

    W2 roller rockers

Do jesel and t&D make w2 rockers for the econo heads? They do for the race w2 heads. Harland sharp does for sure make a set for the econo heads.

    Oil pump priming question/concern

Another thing to be aware of is the bushing to oil pump shaft clearance. It might be too tight. Without the oil pump and cam in, the distributor drive should spin freely, if not it is too tight. Sometimes you will need to ream the bushing after it is installed in the block. I installed a...

    Oil pump priming question/concern

I am sure there is horsepower to be saved. Likely why the current trend of 5W20 oils in the new vehicles. Closer tolerances made this possible, and fuel saving would help the corporate average fuel economy

    340 boat motor

The heads will have valve rotators in place of the regular valve retainers. They limit the amount of lift you can add to the cam. Also I think the heads might be a 318 small port head as well, check the #'s.

Fordged 318-3 truck crank or Poly crank, need help ID

The other thing that might be an issue is the thickness of the 8 bolt flange. The picture looks quite thick. Years ago a buddy was looking for a 426 hemi crank (which is stock with an 8 bolt) and found a 413 forged truck crank with the 8 bolt flange. But the flange was much thicker on the...

Fordged 318-3 truck crank or Poly crank, need help ID

I had a poly crank and it was 6 bolt, forged, but had some xtra pieces on the throws were there was no regular counter weight. was from a 66 Fury. Tossed it as a bearing was spun.

What are the practical limits to the stock Magnum Rocker package?

I ran stock rockers and pushrods in a 360 magnum circle track car. I had a hughes hyd roller .580ish lift, and 2.2 Litre retainers with the Mopar performance valve springs. I would have valve train issues if I spun it up past 6000 rpm. Likely pushrod flex would take the rocker and pushrod...

    340 magnum roller conversion

Just to add to this comment. If is is a 68 340 the pistons will stick out of the block at TDC. The magnum heads are closed chamber. The pistons will hit the heads. Even if they don't quite hit the heads the squish area will be way too close and the compression will be through the roof!

5.2L or 5.9L (Magnum Engine)?? External Difference?

Quick way to tell is the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine. If the ring is not symetrical all the way around, it is a 360. the 360 is externally balanced so there is an imbalance built into the harmonic balancer.

    99 magnum to 833 tranny?

you also will need a pilot bearing to go into the end of the crankshaft. I have done three 360 magnums into my stockcar and did not have to trim the end of the input shaft on the A833, but maybe there are some differences in some crankshafts where this is necessary. I had an issue with using...

    Flywheel Help!

I am not trying to start an argument, but I didn't want 70DusterDev to think he needed to rebalance his rotating assembly. He can simply modify his neutral balance flywheel to work with his exernally balanced cast crank 340 engine. The same can be applied to a 360 LA or 360 magnum just the...

what the heck? look like 18:1 compression pistons.? lol

If you are on a budget and the engine needs nothing else (cylinder walls are good), I would just cut the pistons down to the stock 340 height (i think it is .040" out past the deck? I can verify this if you do it to get the compression down) The difference in balance will be minimal and not...

    Flywheel Help!

I haven't done this with a 340 cast crank and flywheel, but I did do it with a 360 (it required more to be removed) and it worked fine. I also worked out the imbalance on a 360 magnum and did the same on a flywheel and it worked fine. So go for it!
