    Solid vs Hydraulic

    On my latest build I used the comp AMC solid flat tappets that oil the face. I primed it with the manifold off and watched them oil the lobes. I fugure it can't hurt, I just had to get shorter pushrods and so far, so good. Might help a solid flat tappet live a little longer with high spring...

    Picking the right gears for 1/4-mile

    Actually it's 5800', but thats no big deal. I've run 3.91 & 4.30 gears with 27" tires and the 3.91 was at 6200 at the stripe and the 4.30 was at 6400. I don't know the specs on the voodoo cam you have but if you are out of breath at 5500 you might consider 3.73's. I would give it more cam and...

    Since they allow chrysler up to 374 cubes, why not build a .040 over 360 with "x" heads on it and take advantage of the rule break.

    360 build suggestion

    a cast 4" stroke crank ($270) and some head work is another budget way to get you to the low 12's. I don't know what a set of hyper flat top pistons are for the 4" crank, but I have found forged ones for around $400.00. Just another thought.

    small block oil pan

    I have a kevco on a 318 thats been in my 66, had to notch the pass side front of the k frame, pan would hit. I have a moroso 8 qt on my 408 now, a little hard getting it in and it hangs 2" below the k frame. I am going to try a milodon low profile on the engine I am building this winter. all are...

    difference from earlie to late A bodies

    nope. the later k frame is much different, won't say it can't be done, but would be more work than its worth. The uca and lca will work, as will the spindles and 73 brakes.

    Who do you buy your race parts from

    cnc motorsports has had some good deals, Hughes engines, summit, jegs, mancini, ebay. What's sad is our local "speed parts outlet" are really hard to deal with, so I buy everything from out of town. Plus they only speak chvy.

    Best tire with 3.91`s

    I had 235/60r15 bfg drag radials on mine when I had the 318 and even with 4.30 gears it needed more. With the 26 in tall tire it went through the traps at 6200 & 100 mph. With the 318, I needed at least 4.86's with the 26 inch tall tire, 5.13 would have been better.

    Supposedly, there is no reserving a pit spot and there are signs that say it. But sure as heck if you try to pit in a decent spot, there is someone waving you off.     I went to one of those pricey milodon stainless braided tubes, it installed easy and doesn't leak. The original style was a pain to install, IMHO.

    Nice times! Those 318's aren't so bad after all, are they. I surprised a lot of people with my all-mopar 318, running similar times to yours.

    For solid flat tappet I like the Comp XE-282S. 244I, 252E @.050 duration, .520I, .540E lift.

    I'll be following this for sure. Thanks for representin' Mopar & A bodies. The orange/white 56 chevy drives it the 70 or so miles from Colorado Springs up to our cruise night in Golden, Colorado. Must be a $100,000 car. I hope you take him out.

    318 ran last season: 030 over KB-845 pistons, "302" heads w/stock 1.78/150 valves ported by me(I don't know what I'm doing), comp XE-274S solid cam, air gap intake, 750 mech sec carb, 1-5/8 doug's headers, 2800 stall 904, 4.30 gears, 3200# car went best of 13.34@101 at Bandimere(5800' alt)...

    What is the best way to kill the engine with the battery cut off switch for tech? The alt keeps the engine running, so should I use a relay to interrupt the field wire? Or the msd ground wire? I've been fudging this at tech every year but I want to fix it right. Thanks in advance.
