So you have no problems with a cold start? Are you sure that its not an issue with the fuel lines getting heated by the headers/exhaust manifolds and the gas being delivered to the carb too hot to begin with?

For what its worth, if you dont have a stethoscope I use the old trick of using an old wooden broom handle with both ends cut off flat for isolating where the noise/knock is coming from. Place it around the engine and put the other end up to your ear.

IMO since you have that 354 hemi I wouldnt even consider anything else. I guarantee you that theres more than 1 person here on FABO that would sell their left nut to have that block sitting in their garage.

Headers are for sure not my area of expertise. But ive been warned in the past about going to big and losing low end torque.
