Magnum Heads/ LA Block Head Bolts

Is the only reason you need different head bolts is because the magnum uses different bolts? Basically can you use stock Magnum bolts? Or is there actually a special bolt set?

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

Im looking to do a few more sets of heads though and need to find affordable options. Obviously theres $300 spring/retainer packages to run or can spend money on machining and spring cups, etc but trying to be budget oriented

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

On 587 LA heads, yea; thats why I chose these springs because a) I already had them and b) out of all the valve springs I did already have these were the only ones that would clear .510 lift and theyre installed around 1.650

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

Why are we limited to the stock installed height? I dont have any heads here to measure, but is there not a +.100 retainer available that can be used to get to 1.76? Like does it physically interfere? I do like the MP P5249464 spring, its what i have on my 587 heads now and I run them with...

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

I think I intended to say run those with a +0.100 retainer because I believe stock magnum is 1.66, so a 1.76 installed would be right around 100 on the seat, which may now be a little light, but they could maybe work with a less aggressive cam under .500 lift?

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

Anyone have a recommendation for a valve spring that works on a magnum head with factory head going on a LA block with a hyd flat tappet? I see the Hughes 1110, they have 120# on the seat which to me seems just a touch high, would be nice to find a +.050 retainer as my math says that would...

    340 camshaft break-in. Well.....almost

I’ve also seen people hook up the fuel pump backwards, that’ll also not pull fuel from the tank

Anybody ever "DIY" your own slant to SB engine mounts?

I “think” with a spool k frame if you don’t mod the k frame the drivers side will be way too high; not even sure if you could build a mount short enough to deal with that

Sonic Testing ( LA Blocks )

yes, not sure of the longevity on that or what further prep they do, they made a short fill or more, but they obviously find it a better solution that going through or finding good 340 blocks. but as the poster above you mentioned you cant/shouldnt/dont want to do it if the walls are too thin...

Sonic Testing ( LA Blocks )

I’d love to see your results becUse then you could easily turn down a 360 crank and use a standard bore 360 pistons There’s even a outfit in Canada that takes them to 4.040 or 4.070 and builds 340s put them

    Comp cams xe268h for 318

I love this thread so much cuz Im currently putting together a 318 thats getting the Comp XE268H cam, 360 heads, a Weiand intake, and either a Holley 600 carb or an Edelbrock; Im leaning towards the Holley. I cant wait for the disappointment!!!
  23. Baxter61

Just bought some used Edelbrock RPM 340 heads... for my Magnum

why dont you just sell the heads and get the heads that you need?

Am I a Dumbass or what

That's ok, i decided to put aftermarket springs on my magnum heads while they were off the truck and got rebuilt. I looked at pressures and cool bind, all good. Bolt them on, bolt intake on, all the rockers, rolling the motor over coild bind looks like it's happening. Go back and recheck...

Power limitations of the early Magnum

is it unreasonable to try and get into the 12's in a 4300 lb shortwide with 4.10 gears on street tires with the keg intake after the mods to the intake and a pcm flash? if I shoot for 14's I want to do it with the 5.2, if I can get into the 12s with the keg intake i'll do it with a 5.9. if I...

Power limitations of the early Magnum

Looking at hopping up my truck that is a 92 with a 5.2 magnum. Debating how much I want to try and up this thing and where the giant leaps in money are needed. So curious what are the limitations of the factory keg intake, injectors, and PCM.
