No. There are (2). One in the groove and one against the plate. Look at the engine block where the distributor seats, it is recessed.

In my 1964 225 Slant 6 with a WIX 51515 oil filter change I use just over 6 quarts to be just below Full on the dipstick. I am afraid that when you start to unbolt the valve cover, you will have a huge mess. Unless you filled the transmission with oil???:wack:

I put a very small amount of gasket sealer all the way around the gasket behind the plate to hold it in place during install. I also wait until I have the engine back in the car to install the water pump. Just personal preference.

Scotchbrite(Green Scrubby)is the way to go for clean up. I used a printed sealant gasket also, and I have had no leaks or issues. The steel felpros are the ones that need a little RTV!
