C'mon chaps, what i'm trying to ask is your thoughts between the 340 and the 360 really, for an engine that will rev to 7k, is the bore and stroke of the 340 worth all the hype? I have one of each block in storage, the extra cubes and low down of a 360sounds good, but the 340's track...

theres a class running in australia atm i'm considering having a play with, there is no minimum weight for vehicles pre 1986, where any car after, with a 4 to 6 litre engine has to be over 1455kg, (think i can get under 1200) the block must be a production block from the same manufacturer up...

are there any stories of the basic blocks failing in any serious way? I'm about to do a repair on a basic 340 (has been frozen and cracked in the valley) just curious if i should be looking for anything else before attempting this, or, whilst it's baked and welded, are there any weak points...

depends on what you want to go to, i only have a low compression 273 and i love it, they're a good stromg motor that's still quite ecconomical, steel crank, adjustable rockers, solid lifters and if you're lucky 10.5 to one pistons say a lot

theres quite a few over here, vg (69-70) heater delete was common, and the six pack chargers ran an antiquated heater with the same delete plate to clear the webers, can even buy them aftermarket here :)
