    Quarter Mile time estimates

The motor is actually only 4 years old since I rebuilt it. Lots of highway miles, 1500 mile oil changes. Doesn't use any oil, good cylinder pressure on all cylinders, and doesn't use a drop of oil. It is pretty peppy now with the new gears.

    Quarter Mile time estimates

Yeah I was figuring 13.8-14.2, depending on launch and air density, and elevation. Motor makes at least 265-270 at the crank, 3200 lbs with me on scales.

I have run 14.7-14.8s with the same combo and a 3.21 open rear previously.

    Quarter Mile time estimates

What do you guys think for a 1/4 mile ET for this combo in a 73 Duster, with no spare tire in trunk and a fiberglass six pack hood on the front, no a/c: -40K mile 318 since rebuild, .030 over -TRW 8.5:1 cast pistons, moly rings -Edelbrock Performer intake -625 CFM street demon carb -stock...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

I am currently running bottom 14s with my 318 in my Duster, using a 3.21 gear and 235/70/15 tires. The tc is a 2300-2500 stall unit. I would guess that there is a chance of a high 13 out of your setup.

    Slow cuda 68 help plz

I agree..are you hooking? If so, get rid of the Weiand intake and fine a Performer or LD340 dual plane intake. The cam is a bit too much for a 318 , but not impossible to utilize. I use an XE268 cam in my 318, which is large for stock compression, but it works great. The gearing is good, as...

Cam Selection 318/Auto (Low 15 Sec Bracket Car!)

If you are using the manifolds, a Comp Cams XE262 cam would be a god match, with relatively smooth idling. If you upgrade to headers, give the XE268 a try, 1500-5800 rpm range with a lopey idle, but still decent low end. It may work fairly well with the 3.55s and stock to slightly warmer...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Also correct. Sometimes you dont have to be the quickest of the quick to have fun, win, and get respect. True cars guys experiment with their rides, beat on them, tinker some more, beat on them, break them, go to the junkyard and build another motor, beat on it some more, ect. Its a great stress...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Amen to that. I think the OP to this thread will be happy with what he is running in that 318 dart, as well as he should be for how it is built. That is, unless he wants to go quicker, then he will need to go furthur into the motor. I know I will want to get my Duster into the 11s...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Yep, the Flowmasters on the Duster are like the rooster crowing on steroids three times a week at 615 am when I drive the car to work. I cant even turn on the damn electric mower without the elderly (atleast over 60) coming outside his house and putting his hands on his hips. I just look at...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

That is exactly what I was wondering..... Hey Mopar1962, if I lived in a neighborhood anything like yours, then ofcourse I would feel a little inadequite, so I would have to upsize greatly in engine.I would probably love it,as well, living in your neighborhood. Everytime I start the motor...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

In short...........hell yeah it is. In comparson, if that time is legit, it is faster than a few example listed here: Late 90s to Early 2000's Vettes Pontiac G8 Mustang (GT and some older Cobras) Some of the slower SRT8 Chrysler Corporation vehicles Many more All stock ofcourse for...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Lol....I hear you Rob. On the other hand, that little go cart may not have been quite as stock. Maybe you can attest to that. but if it was a lower level neon with about 132 bhp, you probably wouldnt have been too far off. I am just rambling here I guess....lol...just having fun with...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

I agree.... When I am bracket racing, the "slower cars" often are victorious, as the quicker has to run the slower down without breaking out and they quite often redlight in eagarness. Its absolute fun. I would still like to build an all out 10-11 sec car eventually in a few years when I...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Agreed. More cylinder head is needed to match the better pistons and compression now. High 13s are possible now, with minor changes.

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Agreed...we need accurate rides to compare against, however, I do believe the others are just going by ultimate times no matter the ride and competition. Its all good, just trying to help cover all of the bases.

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Put some more gear and converter into it, and you may be pretty damn close right now to atleast 13.7s to high 13s. Depends on track as well and density altitude. I am running an XE268 with stock compression and slightly shaved heads, with 650 DP, 3.21 gearing and stock converter and have run...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Very well stated, but you still had a lot on your plate with that little neon; probably a 1,800 pound difference.8) Its all opinion and perspective I guess..... The 318 Dart he is building will be decently quick and peppy and will easily pray on many equally or so equipped, modern V6 or...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

14 sec is quicker, but it seems you are like me, Joe... Once youve driven something in the 12s or lower, the whole spectrum of view changes. I feel the same way, but try to remember the averages of things and most likely, 14s are quicker than average times for -all- cars on the road...

    What Is A Respectable Time??

Weight of the vehicle, gearing, ect has to be considered. My 2007 Charger Daytona with mods runs 13.5, which I consider very quick, as well as most should, since it weighs 4,300 lbs. My 318 Duster runs 14s with 3.21s. This is very quick for a 318 with stock compression and heads and works...

    Pinks All Out

Lol, I don't know if it was All Out or just regular pinks, but about three nights ago, I was watching an episode and towards the end, Rich, the producer, got on his crotch rocket to ride sown to the end of the track to check on a Corvette that threw a timing belt and broke several valves in the...

    Duster Vs. Nova

Yeah, up here in Ventura County, people constantly drive up beside me and shout: "Nice Nova!!!!" As if it is any easier to determine that it isn't a GM with my brand spanking new Duster fender emblems and two small Mopar Performance stickers on my rear side windows. Such a travesty.....Lol...

    First EVER run

Yeah, I run a 27" tire too, 235/70/15's to be exact. I shift at 4500 in each gear, as my cam is designed more for low end grunt. It has similar lift charactersitcs to the 340 cam, but the duration is a bit different. What rear are you running? The stock piston will lower the compression to a...

    First EVER run

I think you can get a little more out of it with a slightly looser converter and maybe some headers, but thats a respectable time, no matter what anyone says. Its quick, but not blazing. Good numbers for the 318 and setup. Do you have the stock pistons? The time may be a little slower than it...
