All 741 pinion are suppose be 1 3/8 with a 29 spline Pinion according to every parts manufacturer I've found. That's why I can't figure this one out.

So ,I finely got around to disassemble my 741 housing. The new ring and Pinion has 29 spline pinion, as all the parts catalogs show. But mine has a 10 spline pinion . I measured the Pinion thickness, both old and new are 1 3/8 thick anyone ever run across this before?

So, had any one have luck get the correct spider gears a 7.25 ? The two sets I ordered see to be incorrect.

I want to replace my spider gear set also. So far I haven't had luck finding the correct gears. Chrysler had two versions of 7 1/4. A early version with a 9 bolt cover. Late is 10 bolt cover. Yours and mine are 9 bolt. The two set I ordered where incorrect.

So after more research, l found all 8 1/ 4 differentials up to 1972 take the smaller seal and bearing. $60.00 in parts, the noise is gone. Can't swap too a bigger differential that cheap. Found one pit in the outer race on the right side.

that's what I was thinking also,that when convertor drains after sitting level gets high and leaks out of the seal.

I have had car for 6 years now,in winter I put in storage,had minor transmission pan leak.well I fixed damaged bolt hole threads in may.no leaks all summer long.checked on the car this week and there's huge puddle on transmission oil on the floor.not the pan leaking.but is wet buy selector shaft...

almost 16 years as c/p/d tech at dealers,i did a lot trans in front driver trans,check fluid level.low fluid will cause lots of problems when cold,may not fix van,-cleaning sensor of metal is a sign that trans is almost done

the band also could have broke.if the strut broke or fell out its not hard to fix,but vavle body will have to be removed.

there wasn't real lot of meat on factory ban to start with.
