How hard is setting up the 8 1/4 R&P

No, the 8.25 had screw adjusters just like the 8.75. I rebuilt my 8.25 about 8 years ago (about 50k miles) going from 2.90's to 3.55 gears. The hardest part of the job was tightening the pinion nut to start the crush sleeve collapsing. The ring/pinions you buy these days are marked with what...

    833 Leaking Again

Are you sure it's leaking from the rear seal? If you leave the tranny in reverse fluid can leak through the reverse light switch. It us below the fill level and in reverse the ball in the switch is off it's seat and it can leak. Brewers has a replacement switch that has a better seal.

    4.7L Trans info

The 545RFE tranny that came behind the 4.7 is a full electronically controlled unit. You will need to adapt the 4.7 ecu to control it unless you can find a stand alone tranny controller, I am not aware of one.

    Od a-833

Light Duty pick-ups and vans cam with A833OD trannies, and the bell housing is the same as a car bell housing and is designed for a 10.5" clutch. I agree the NP435 bell housing wouldn't work.

    A833 od 4 speed abuse

I pulled an A833OD from a D100 that had over 100,000 miles on it. I put another 26,000 miles on it behind a built slant 6 and for the last 41,000 miles it's been behind a stout 360 (370 HP). I have not babied it at all with frequent burn outs and spirited shifting. It has held up just fine. You...

    Passion Perfromance 5spd

Has anyone seen the June issue of Mopar Action? Passion Performance is coming out with a 5spd that is a straight drop in replacement for an A833 4spd. Same clutch, bellhousing, drive shaft and cross member can be used and no floor modifications. They are rating it at 650 ft-lbs for torque...

    Manual trans swap info

The 1976 360 I picked up was drilled to size for the pilot bushing. I believe they are drilled but it may not be to size to accept a standard pilot bushing. You have a several options: 1) NAPA sells a special thin wall bushing for the unfinished hole size, or 2) use the late model RAM v8 roller...

8.75 it is, now i need to narrow it HELP

Virtually millions of FWD and independant front suspension 4WD vehicles use a double row ball bearing that is of the same design as the Green bearing from the factory to support the wheel hubs and I have seen them on the backs of FWD cars to. This type of bearing is designed to handle side loads...

bad pressure plate or something else??????? pics inside

I had a Zoom clutch where the fingers would contact the disk. When I purchased a new RAM clutch and compared the disks the hub was about 3/8" thicker on the pressure plate side. The RAM didn't make contact.

    Syntec gear oil

I have about 45K miles on the sure grip in my 68 Barracuda with Mobil 1 synthetic gear lub and no additional friction modifiers. I have never had any issues with clunking, tire scuffing or roughness.

How to use a Gear Ratio calculator?

You put in the speed, the rpm for that speed and the tire diameter and it will give you the gear ratio, you may need to tell the calculator if the tranny has an overdrive gear ratio. Most of the calculators will solve for any of the variables as long as you know the others.

    ??? 8 3/4 brakes ???

You didn't mention that you were going to get new axles. As long as the new axles are made with the A-body offset and the small bolt pattern then the a-body drums will fit. Most folks go the other way and get the B/E body offset with big bolt pattern so they can use the readily available 10...

    ??? 8 3/4 brakes ???

The A-body rear brakes are 1 3/4" wide where the E-body are 2 1/2" because of the different axle offset of the e-body to accomodate the wider brake the A-body stuff won't work, not to mention the different bolt pattern.

    ugly rear end

Starting in 73 if you had an A-body car with a V8 or a \6 with disk front brakes you had the big bolt pattern, even if it had a 7.25 rear end. I gave a big bolt pattern 7.25 from a 73 318 Dart Swinger away a few years back. Only the \6 drum brake cars stayed small bolt pattern.

Is it worth investing in a 8.25

The 8.25 is nearly as strong as an 8.75. If you are staying under 450HP it will hold up fine. Mopar has put more 8.25's under vehicles than any other rear so there is lots of support for them and the parts aren't pricey.

8&3/4" mopar vs Phord 9" vs xploder 8.8" rear

Considering the number of 10 sec late model Mustangs running around with 8.8's it is far from junk. C-clips themselves almost never fail, it's the axle breaking any where along it's length that allows the axle to seperate. A c-clip elminator is not a bad idea for a high horespower and traction...

    swapping axles?

Don't forget that if you swap back to small bolt circle you will need to deal with the brakes too. All sbp 8.75's used a narrow 1.75" brake. People that convert to large bolt circle also change the axle offset to accept a 2.5" wide brake and the readily available brake parts (avoids needing to...

OD tranny hard to come by?

    Hurst on 833 Overdrive

The A833OD I put in my 68 Barracuda came with a Hurst mechanisom on it. The diameter of the rod ends where they conect to the shifter and the levers were smaller in diameter than a Hurst replacement shifter and would not work. Don't know if your inland shifter is that way or not. I picked up...

what can i use switching from a 8.25 to 8.75?

Yes area B. You can have the axles re-drilled for the 4.5" bolt circle but you will need to use the narrow 1.75" drums which will need to be redrilled too. Most folks get new axles with the correct offset for the wider 2.5" drums which then allows you to use readily available brake parts.
  29. dgc333

what can i use switching from a 8.25 to 8.75?

You can not swap the brakes from an 8.25 to an 8.75 unless you get custom axles with the large bolt pattern AND the proper offset for the wider 8.25 axle's brakes. 8.75's offset is set up for 1.75" wide brakes the 8.25 is set up for 2.5" wide brakes. The spline count is differnent between...

    8.25 from a -72 onto a -66 with 8.75?

Don't forget the 8.25 has a 4.5" bolt circle and the 8.75 has a 4" bolt circle (unless it was modified) for the wheels. I am not sure but are the wheel bases of the 66 and 72 the same? If they are you should be able to swap drive shafts but if they are not then both will need to be modified.
