    help me adjust vacuume advance

Even though initial+mechanical+vacuum may add up to 52 you will almost never have all your mechanical and vacuum advance at the same time. Mechanical advance varies with rpm, vacuum advance varies with load. The vacuum only operates at part throttle light load, ie. cruise. Hook up a vacuum...

    coil wiring

Figure on $40 to buy a rebuilt points distributor. Or, $20 for the control module ( called an ECU) and last time I checked the wiring harness for converting from points to electronic ignition was about $20. So either way you are going to spend $40 ish. The choice is do you want easy wiring...

MSD-How are you guys hooking up your ON-OFF switched wire ?

The small red wire turns a relay on and off inside the MSD box. To use another relay to turn that relay on and off is adding another potential point of failure and reduced reliability with no benefit. My recommendation would be to follow the MSD instructions and connect to the power wire to...

    Ballast resister?

Re-Read the article; they state the coil life will be compromised. If you purchase a coil that is designed to run with full battery voltage you can without worrying about shortening the life span of the coil.

70$ voltage regulator vs 20$ one, is it worth it?

I have had very good luck with Wells stuff. They supply the OEMs and have been making electronics for the auto industry since the 50's. I have had the 69+ Wells (can't remember the number) regulator in my car coming up on 11 years and 65,000 miles.

    headlights

Just a comment on Cibie (and Carrello too). I have had both brands have the silver coating start to peel off after a couple of years. Didn't take long before they were useless.

    Gauge light bulb spec?

I am pretty sure my owners manual states the bulbs are a 194 in my 68 Barracuda Owners Manual. I went with a 168 because they are a little briter than the 194's.

    re-usable distributor after swap?

I have no idea what the MP \6 kits had in them, in anycase they don't make them any more and its not likely you will find one. But I found when I was running a \6 in the Cuda that a stock light spring and one of the springs from the MP two spring kit would have all the timing in on a stock \6...

    re-usable distributor after swap?

You are going to have to piece it together for a \6. You can get a rebuilt distributor for a \6 at most any parts store. The same for the ecu they are readily available and there is no difference between 6 and 8 cylinder modules. Also, there is no real reason to by a performance module...

    wireing question

Blue wires are used for switched 12 volts. You should have one going from the bulkhead connector to the voltage regulator, one to the ballast resistor and one to one of the field winding connections on the alternator. Sometimes blue is also used to go from the other side of the ballast resistor...

Ignition wires going to MSD box

Yes you will need position 1 and 2 connected together. The easiest way is to remove the ballast resistor and put a jumper between the two connectors (MSD gives you a pigtail for this) and connect the small red wire of the MSD to the wire that used to connect to the positive side of the coil.

MSD 2 Blaster coil with stock orange box set up??

Yes, but I would use the MSD recomended ballast resistor to go with it.

    voltage regulator repair

I have been using Wells parts for as long as I can remember and have never had an issue with any of them. Wells is located in Wisconsin and has been manufacturing automotive parts since the mid 50's there. They also have a plant in Mexico where the plastic molded parts come from and some of...

    Which Distributor?

It will work but you are certainly not getting all the engine has to offer if you just installed the distributor with making modifications to it.

    Which Distributor?

The mechanical advance in the MP distributor is adjustable. Since about 02 the MP distributor has been made by Mallory using the Mallory adjustable mechanical advance mechanism. Below the pick-up plate where the advance weights and springs are there are two button head screws that can be...

    Which Distributor?

That's a stock replacement distributor. If you have a modified motor it likely has too much mechanical and the advance rate will be too slow. The rate can be changed with a spring swap but the amount of mechanical advance isn't as easy to change (requires disassembling and welding up the slots)...

    Which Distributor?

The Mopar Performance distributor uses the Mallory advance mechanism so you get the same mechanical and vacuum advance adjust-ability of the Mallory with the parts store availability of factory Caps, Rotors and the Pick-up. The Mallory and MSD have a better made housing with bearings (the MP...

    adjusting vacuum advance

Unless the Mallory vacuum pod is completely different than the factory pod the adjustment screw adjusts the preload on the spring that returns the pod to the zero advance position. The net result is you are adjusting the amount of vacuum required to make the advance start to move and the total...

    bypassing ballast resistor?

You have to becareful with those ditributors. Because of the large diameter cap there may be interference issues with the fire wall. Check your clearance before investing.

    Setting Dwell

I agree! Dwell is the amount of time that current is flowing through the coil expressed in degrees. In a points system the points open on the leading edge of the cam and close on the trailing edge of the cam so increasing the point gap at the peak cause the points to open sooner and close latter...

    bypassing ballast resistor?

Contrary to what that article states using a stock replacement 4-pin GM module DOES NOT elminate the need for a ballast resistor (the GM module and Mopar module are basically the same inside). You will need a coil that is specifically designed to operate without a ballast like a GM HEI coil...

    Ballast resistor or not?

FYI, its not so much as controlling it as the MSD works completely differently and its not applicable. In a point or basic electronic inductive ignition the dwell (or time that current is flowing through the coil) is approx 30 degrees. On an 8 cylinder engine for each rotation of the...

    Ballast resistor or not?

    Gauges Peg Max

I would suspect that you have not fixed the root cause of the problem. The gauges are grounded via the sender (oil pressure sender, water temperature sender or float in the gas tank), its that variable resistance to ground provided by the sender that causes the gauge to move up and down its...

    Gauges Peg Max

If they still move to full scale when power is applied they are not fried. These gauges weren't accurate when they were new and driving them to the stops may make them less accurate but what you are looking for from the factory guages is just an indication that something has changed. Don't...

    Electronic Distrubuter Tricks

You mentioned you have a "stock Mopar Perfromance distributor", if it was manufactured after 2002 it will have Mallory guts that includes an adjustable mechanical advance as well as the adjustable vacuum advance. There is also a kit which includes several sets of springs and a set of spacers...

    Gauges Peg Max

Well if they still go full scale when you turn the power on I would say they are not fried. The instrument voltage regulator is built into the fuel gauge on your car. You will need to pull the cluster and take the fuel gauge apart so you can isolate the contacts. I put a piece of mylar...

    vacuum advance?

The PO of your car does not understand how the vacuum advance works. The vacuum advance ONLY works at part throttle light load cruising when the manifold vacuum is high. Any time you step on the gas or are under load such as going up a hill the manifold vacuum is close to zero and the vacuum...

    Orange or Chrome box??

The four pin HEI modules functionality is no different than that Standard LX101 you are using. To just swap out the module will not get you anything and in fact when mated with a stock mopar coil and ballast resistor has less rpm range that the stock factory ignition. Also, just swapping the...

    Orange or Chrome box??

Whether you run a stock, orange, chrome or gold igntion box they do not by themselves have any impact on the output of your ignition. The performance modules (orange, chrome, gold) when mated with the recomended coil and ballast resistor will result in more current flow through the coil...
