    Street Gear Poll

I agree, Doug. Got 3.73's in both my Ford trucks. One's a direct three speed and the other is a ZF overdrive (one of the worst transmission set ups I've ever owned... first isn't steep enough to be a granny low and the overdrive set might as well be a lock up converter). At 65 the direct drive...

dexron in a 904? help please

Unless you're going to pump out the converter why change types? If you're only gonna drop the pan and do a filter change with band adjustments then stick with the Dexron.

    another dead overdrive unit

Guys, let me explain a few things. For those who live on flat lands where you can see for miles and miles and miles (damned song just popped into my head) and you know you're going to be able to do a constant speed, at a constant RPM, then sure, go ahead and tap that OD button. Where I'm at...

    another dead overdrive unit

Got an '02 Ram 1500, 360/518 in the shop on Monday. Owner's complaining about the truck slipping to the point of not wanting to move. Rolled it in and started doing the basic checks. Fluid is crap, lot's of debris. Pull the pan, filter is clogged, I mean packed, lot of debris in the bottom...

    727 Overdrive

http://www.dippy.org/forum2/index.php/topic,231.0.html I'm throwing this up as someone pointed out the wiring issues. Look at the bottom of the article and you'll see that on one conversion oil pressure switches were used to control the OD and lock up, essentially letting the trans itself...

Looking for pictures of a518 install

I was thinking of putting up that link, too. Figured it would be nice, but the difference in the transverse torsion bars vs. the lateral ones make the install a hair simpler on the F,J, and M's.

    DIY Wheel bearing?

Check your axles, too, to make sure the bad bearing hasn't caused any pitting or abnormal wear.

Anyone have any idea what rear end this is?

If you want to upgrade the brakes for it you can always go boneyard hopping for a cop car/taxi M-body (I point this out just for ease of reference and ID in a junkyard) and grab the 11" backing plates for it and then do the upgrade from there using new parts from the local parts store. Just a...

    Which do you like best?

A friend of mine once told my dad that he would get more consistant et's if he put an auto in the 'Cuda. My dad, who drove truck for 3 million miles told him "if I don't know how to jam gears by now something's wrong..." (By the way, I was in the Freightliner with him when he outshifted an auto...

alternatives to an 8.75- what about an explorer 8.8?

As far as the system for the rear disks, that's the way to go. The mini drum style e-brake can be a nightmare getting the rotor off for replacement. Smack it off from the backside and pop shoe hardware all over the world do to a ridge of rust, or delaminate the shoe lining and have to hunt down...

    8 3/4 or ford 9 in.

Just my two cents, but if you're building a 1000hp car, that means some serious money on engine, a tranny to back up a 1000hp, a suspension that will hook that kind of power to the earth, and a car to hold it all together. (Tubbed, tubed, etc...) And you're asking about using a junkyard casting...
