    I modified my tr-ys on my 69 Barracuda with a 440+6 to work with a four speed. It was a really easy mod. I don't know whey Schumacher didn't do it.

    Sometimes you have to loosen up the other bolts so that you can slide the header away from the head and get the bolt started.

    I read that shorties wouldn't work in an E-body as well, but they fit pretty nice in mine. I was ready to modify the dump if necessary though.

    I put Headman shorties on my 408 in my 71 Barracuda. They fit nice, however, it takes a sharp bend from the collector to work. The Headman's are about twice as much, but are 1 5/8". I think the ones you are looking at are 1.5".

    I would think 2.5 inch exhaust would be more than adequate for a 318. Tests I have seen show virtually no difference between an x pipe and an h pipe. The h pipe is a lot cheaper to install. Never had resonators, I like exhaust all the way out back, not as loud inside the car. My two cents.

    I have a set of Schumachers that I modified for a four speed. Had the 440 in a 69 Barracuda. They fit great. I really liked them. I ended up putting in the original 383 with cast manifolds, sold the 440. PM me if you are interested in the headers.

    When I did my x-pipe kit from Summit, I put flanges before the mufflers, that way I can unbolt the entire exhaust under the car and still leave the mufflers and tailpipes hanging. I can easily do a clutch change or whatever without the exhaust being in the way.

    That was me. I wasn't aware of any warranty for the headers. Wouldn't have made any difference because I bought them knowing I was going to cut them up. I think the average guy could do this with minimal tools. A cheapo Harbor freight 4 inch grinder with a cut off wheel would work just fine...

    Sounds like maybe your engine is not sitting straight . I just put in Schumachers in my 69 with a 440 and had no issues with the idler arm.
