Actually it was 3/8. I used a butterfly air ratchet with very long extensions and I accessed it with the passenger door opened.

Agreed, I just went through this as well and it is indeed a very long stud in the fender. I used an air ratchet to put it on.

Trust me I didnt want to either, but it is money well spent! That is not a job you want to redo!

I agree. I think once I instll the headlight trim rings and get everything screwed down it will come down. I just wanted to make sure everything fit correctly before paint. I am going to be restoring this grill before it goes back on. Thanks for the help and photos!

Here are some pictures of what I did. I welded a plate on the back of the firewall and cut a hole plug for the front of the firewall. I kept the heater hose holes open and put some grommets in them for wiring pass throughs in the future. Hope this helps.
