    Engine install questions

Install went great. Bolted up trans outside of the car. Installed in 1 piece and lowered it onto the headers. Installed the starter while headers were loose. Some pics show starter but I pulled it off before it was lowered down and reinstalled it. My only issue I noticed was how the motor sat in...

Engine mounts in correct location to k frame 70 swinger

There were only nubs on the bracket side of the mounts. I did try loosing the brackets but not much wiggle room. Looking at these header install instructions my measurements are identical to the posted specs.

Engine mounts in correct location to k frame 70 swinger

Thanks just bolted everything up. I may be too anal on setting it up but just trying to make sure everything is done correctly. Does being off a small amount matter at all? I don't know, Im sure there are a bunch of guys that drop them in, bolt them up and go. I was able get it almost...

Engine mounts in correct location to k frame 70 swinger

Excellent thanks. Id imagine its best to level front to rear on at the door sills and side to side on the cowl and core support? I could not find any instructions from Schumacher on leveling the engine, not sure if they were sent with the mounts.

Engine mounts in correct location to k frame 70 swinger

Quick question. Just installed the motor in my 70 swinger. Looking at the motor mount holes the drive driver side is bottomed out and passenger side is approximetly 1/2" from bottoming out to the k member. If assume they should be both at the bottom of the grooves on the k member correct? Or is...

    motor mount brackets and bolts

I just got home and look. It appears originally my 318 had four mounting bolts on the passenger side and the 360 only has casting on the block for 3 mounting bolts. On the driver side I originally had 3 bolts on the 318 but the rear mounting location is way off when lining up the front holes...

    motor mount brackets and bolts

I just pulled off my motor mount bracket off my 70 dart 318 and threw them in the ultrasonic cleaner before work. I planed on using them on my 408 stroker (360) block. My buddy just told me the 340/360 driver side bracket might be different from the 318, is that correct? Also what size and...

    Engine install questions

This will be my first engine/trans install. I'm working on my 70 swinger currently waiting on new ARP bell housing/flex plate bolts. Once they arrive I plan on installing the smallblock engine/transmission in one piece, in the next couple weeks when I get some free time. I am probably over...

408 stroker motor mount and transmission mount recomendations

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. After doing a little research and advice from this thread, I think I am going to go with schumaker torque strap and the mitymounts. It might be overkill and I bet I could get away with the strap and stock mounts, but better safe than sorry. Thanks for...

408 stroker motor mount and transmission mount recomendations

Looking for recommendations for new motor and transmission mounts. I have a 70 dart swinger and will be installing my 408 stroker shortly. Motor is pushing 502hp and 530 ft lb of torque on the dyno. Id imagine I should be going with something stronger than stock replacements. Car is mostly a...

    Engine Block long term storage

I have a fully machined 360 block that I am not going to be using anytime soon. What is the best way to protect it for storage? Should it be completely coated with a light coat of grease(like wheel bearing) and then covered with a bag? I could coat it with motor oil but would that be good...

can someone educate me on the 340 6pk parts

Hmmm. That might make me change my mind. Do you still use a regular 6pk air cleaner also? My only other worry will be tuning them in. I'm use to syncing snowmobile/motorcycle carbs. The intake is stamped 341868 Front carb 0500 List 4789 Rear carb 0430 List 4790 Those are the numbers...

can someone educate me on the 340 6pk parts

I just picked up a edelbrock chrysler small block 6 pack intake with two carbs. Im missing the center carbs. I beleive this is all stock 340 6pk parts. Origionally i thought about using the setup on my dart but i really dont want to go away from my 340 dual scoop hood. So kinda thinking...

    72 340 build

As of right now the motor is stuck. So over the next couple weeks I will be working on freeing it up. So for starters I can figure this motor will need to be bored out at least .030 but that will be seen once its free and disassembled. As far a budget like anyone it is a concern. Although I am...

    340 marine motor?? differances?

I have been planning on rebuilding my 318 for my 70 swinger because it seems like I cant find a fair priced 340 complete locally unless the price is high. I just ran across a guy selling a 1967 boat with a complete 340. Not sure if it runs but has odviously been apart before becaause its painted...

    273 rockers advantage??

i have seen some post of people using 273 rockers on 318s 340s and 360s. Im gathing parts for my 318 build and if i switch rockers are the 273 rockers a big advantage for a street motor?? Are they worth the investment??

    1970 Cast crank and rods??

Im getting ready to do a build on my 70 318. I haven't disassembled the motor yet but have it on the stand. I believe the 70 crank is cast. Am I safe to use this stock crank if I do get anywhere near 400hp?? I am pretty much setting my build on the hot rod magazine 400hp 318 build. I don't...
