    Kelsey Hayes replacement rotors question

following. did not have this issue when rebuilding my KH brakes last year... The problem many have encountered is the "hat" rubbing the caliper piston seal.

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

I got rough finish hat rotors (and new calipers) from Rock Auto less than a year ago

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

No rebuilding calipers doesn't solve the problem. The configuration of the "hat" of the new rotors is such that it just barely rubs the side of the seal and wears it away. Only clearancing the hat so that it doesn't rub the seal will fix this. As far as I can tell all the different rotor...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

I got Rock Auto rotors and turned them down, but only the fat area near the disc where the seals rub. 6000 miles on them so far without any issues. when judging thickness remember the the first stuff that you are removing is the rough casting surface and probably has less effect on strength.

    Brake lines

WARNING!!! if you use the stainless versions, the flare fittings are harder to seal! The stainless is just much harder than the original mild steel (but then it never corrodes, either) After struggling with them for way too long, I found a post here with a link to copper flares that go inside...

These hubs are getting really hard to find in good condition. I would be going out of my way not to chance warping them!!!

Doesn't anybody make big bolt pattern axles that are a direct swap?

Im convinced there is so much bullshit with these companies Right stuff is a joke

That's really impressive... how does the rear axle move up and down, or the front wheels steer without brake hoses??? CONGRATULATIONS!!! Looks like you are ready to roll... I mean stop... you know what I mean!

Will the work for 4 wheel disc

That is the distribution block. Isn't there a small brass block in the line just to the left of what I can see in the picture???

Will the work for 4 wheel disc

just to make sure this is clear, the original valve like the one that you pictured at the start of this thread is a distribution block. Since there is no proportioning going on in the distribution block, you can use the old drum brake block that came on the car. I believe that your 71 Demon...

Im convinced there is so much bullshit with these companies Right stuff is a joke

I'm not convinced that the master cylinder lines are wrong - the long run just out of the master fitting is to run the lines back toward the firewall (because of the power booster and bracket) then the loop and down to the distribution block. are the lines that you bought original mild steel or...

Im convinced there is so much bullshit with these companies Right stuff is a joke

So somebody posted a picture of the line set, and now it has disappeared. If the picture is still around here is a description of where they all go: Long line through the middle and up to the right goes from separate proportioning valve to the rear axle two small lines right bottom are from...

Aftermarket brakes for a 70 Dart?

Stainless Steel Brake Corp. (SSBC) sells a base set up that uses your 10 inch drum brake spindles. It uses K&H calipers with 4 pots originally for a Mustang (so replacement parts are easy), and 11 inch discs like the K&H brakes. The rotors are drilled for both small and big bolt pattern so you...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

Yep, I ran into this with the calipers and rotors that I got from Rock Auto about a year ago. The rough cast hats rode on the caliper piston boot. I took them to to a place that turns rotors and they were able to set their machine up to turn down the surface of the hat a bit so that they...

    pulling to the right

another thing I experienced is, if the drums have been turned, not getting turned all the way to the face of the drum on the inside, leaving a ridge. The shoes expand when hot and would ride that ridge once they got warmed up with brake use. I won't tell you how long it took to figure that...

    Rear drums too tight

were the pads where the shoes rest against the backing plate lubricated? Were these pads on the backing plates cleaned during the brake job as corrosion may have formed ridges based on the shoe location with worn shoes? Is something in the hydraulic system keeping the wheel cylinders from...

Bleeding master cylinder in the car

Sorry, but that just isn't how brake cylinders and calipers work. When you let up on the pedal, the pistons in the cylinders and calipers pull back since they aren't under pressure - no air involved, just brake fluid. I've never had a brake line "break" in 50 years of working on cars in...

Bleeding master cylinder in the car

The lines should be completely filed with fluid (along with the wheel cylinders, master and calipers) normally I would think of condensation as moisture that came out of solution from the air because of a drop in temperature. If the system is properly bled (no air bubbles in a system - a...

Bleeding master cylinder in the car

regarding getting brake fluid on your paint - I went to DOT 5 (silicone) in all my Darts and never looked back. It's expensive to buy but not as expensive as taking a bunch of stuff out to do a good job of repairing the mess when things go wrong. No need to get every little bit of DOT 3 out as...

removing 9 inch brake drums from hubs

I have never had 9 inch drums on anything, but I'm trying to help a friend fix the front brakes on her 1965 Barracuda. What is the recommended way to separate the drums from the hubs? I presume that it means pressing the studs far enough down in the hub to release the drum? They don't appear...

Brake rotors for KH factory brakes made by Centric - critical review

As I was finishing the front end on my 70 Dart GT, I completely rebuilt the factory KH brakes. That included rotors made by Centric that I got from Rock Auto. All new front end parts, rebuilt, and on one side, replaced hubs, with fresh bearings and seals, new rotors, new calipers, all new hard...

I am having brake issue on my 1970 duster

I installed a new master/booster this year that I bought at the Nats in Columbus a few years ago. All seemed fine until I pushed hard on the brakes. It took a while to figure out that the cheap pushrod that came with it bent 90 degrees with pedal pressure. When we took it out I could...

    Leaking brakes, re-flare?

Less expensive than dissatisfied customers demanding refunds and replacement lines, probably not. Over 2 weeks I probably spent a half hour on the phone with Right Stuff's tech guy, and then they ended replacing a line in mild steel so that I could get the last fitting to seal. They could have...
