    new proportioning valve leaking

I'm swapping to disc brakes. I installed my new proportioning valve [Edit: I thought it was made by Inline Tube but it wasn't--the picture is from their ad and my valve looks the same but doesn't have the INL marking], connected all the lines, went to bleed the system and found fluid leaking...

Drum brakes grinding noise at start of each drive

My 10" front drum brakes make a scraping/grinding sound every time I start driving. After a few stops they are quiet. I'm about to switch to disk brakes anyway, but I'm just curious what could be causing this. I don't think it's rust because it happens even if I only stop for a half hour...

broke head off NEW wheel cylinder bolt

Installing brand new Dorman wheel cylinders on 10" rear drum brakes. FSM says 220 in-lbs torque, but the bolt head broke off before I got to that. I felt like I was overtorqueing it, but was going for the specification since I don't have a feel for how tight it really needs to be to function...

    help flaring nickel-copper lines

What am I doing wrong? In the pics you can see that the inner edge of the rolled-over part is getting pushed out instead of down. I've watched a bunch of videos, and I've tried two different flaring tools but my flares keep coming out all burred and ugly. I'm a novice when it comes to tube...

Front/rear balance after front disc swap

'74 Swinger, originally 4-wheel drum. I'm swapping to 8.25" rear (10"x2.5" drums) and factory '73-'76 front disc (11" rotor, 1976 calipers with the 2.75" pistons), manual brakes. For balanced braking, should I install the factory proportioning valve or use smaller rear wheel cylinders than the...

disk swap on '74 or keep drums?

I'm relatively new to working on cars. I have a '74 Swinger with 4-wheel drums. I don't plan any high-performance driving, but I want a reliable and reasonably safe daily driver. As far as I know the drums and even the shoes are original (80K miles on the car) but I have recently replaced the...

    Master cylinder rebuild or replace?

Have you ever regretted rebuilding your own master cylinder? I'm trying to decide whether to rebuild or replace. I have the shop manual and the old cyl seems in good condition except I think it has an internal leak (pedal slowly sinks to the floor when I'm stopped at a light).
