Well here is the car I just picked up the other day.
I got the car in Amarillo,TX(100 miles away from me).
I am so excited that I was able to save up enough for it.
I have eyeballing this car for a while now.

The car is a 1966 Dodge Dart GT:

Let the project begin!

Ill keep you guys up to date on what I do to it.

Well my friends and I got the car running yesterday!
Runs great!
We got all the old gas out of the system and threw a spare battery in.
All the lights work around the car also.
We did move the car a little bit to see if it will go.
The front breaks need to be redone.
The drivers side front drum locked up for some reason.
All the drum hardware was pulled out in order to free it up.
I am going to replace all the brake hardware, shoes, and wheel cylinders.
I also found a decent set of tires at my local discount tire.
They did not have(nor does anyone) have the size thats on it already (185-80-13).
The discount tire did have a 185-70-13 for $30 each so I will probably run those.

Well today I went to the car and got a little bit of rubbing compound/polish turtle wax brand and buffed a little spot with it. Turned out great!
The color really pops now.
In case any of you didn't know but my Dart is RR-1 (Daffodil Yellow).
The Yellow looks really good.
The car was painted about 15 years ago.
Then it was parts 3 years after that for about 12 years.
So I guess it just needs a good buff to bring the real color out.
Any suggestions on how to buff the car quicker then doing it by hand?
Any buffing products you guys will suggest?
If I need to buy a buffer I can do that. Suggest one to me.
Any buffing pads that you all suggest?

Looks like a really solid car. Great find. What are your plans for it?

As for now I am planning on just keeping the slant six for now.
I would like to later down the road upgrade everything to the big bolt pattern and put some 15" rallye wheels.
Also I would like to do a 2 tone effect. I wll carry the black from the roof to the bezel around the windshield/hood and paint the bottom half a charcoal gray metallic.

I thought the code for pale yellow was 88-1.. Well it was on my 65 Gt.

Could have changed for 66. My 65 GT 'vert is also that pale yellow 88-1

Well it could possibly be this Lpale" yellow.
I tried to read the vin tag and its pretty worn so it was hard to make out the letters. I thought it said RR-1 but it could possibly be 88-1.
Ill try to double check tomorrow.
it is a pale yellow. I searched on google for the RR-1 paint code and thats where I came up with the Daffodil yellow.

Do you guys have pictures of your darts? I wanna see the color in good condition.

Thanks for the info!

Congrats Man. Looks really solid and complete. I know where you are from the pics.....Not far from me....about 15 blocks.

Good find on the Dart, indeed.

Here's my '66 GT. Ordered it new back in '65.

Repainted it in '75 and did the seat inserts.

Installed the front seats in '85.

The wheels are 14" x 5.5" small bolt pattern. Tires are 225/60Rx14.

Nice Dart!
I like how all your wiper sprayers are working lol.
I have mine there but all the hoses are cracked on mine.

Thanks.
The wiper pic's are from the other day when someone asked for details on hook up.

Have fun with yours.

Little update:
Well I found 2 used 13's that actually hold air. So this morning I took off the 2 rear wheels to go take the tires off.
Funny thing is I noticed one of these rear wheels do not match. They are 2 totally different wheels.
I decided to freshen up the look of the wheels while they were off so I dismounted the tires and spray painted the wheels.
The paint I used was Rustoleum Automotive Primer and Rustoleum Gloss Black paint.
First I sanded down the surface as much as I could. I took off alot of the rust which is good.
Next I sprayed 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of black base coat.
I was going to clear the wheel but I decided not to.
They dont look great but they are just going to be winter wheel when I get my new wheels.
I'll will do the front wheels when I get 2 more tires.
Well here are pictures.

Before(notice the different wheel):

Mounted and balanced the tires after they baked in the New Mexico sun for about 6 hours lol.

Here are a few updates.

I polished a few spots on the car.
I was using a turlewax brand rubbing compound/polish but it was very hard to remove.
So I purchased a 3M brand professional grade rubbing compound and it works great.
We only buffed a few spots by hand just to see how it would come out.
We recently got a Craftsman Polisher. I am going to practice on my extra fenders before I actually start on the car.

I did part of the trunk, rear quarter panel, and sail panel/b panel.
Can you see the difference:

The door is not polished:

Here is a good example (the quarter panel is polished and the trunk is not):

As soon as I get more practice with the actual buffer Ill finish the rest of the car with more updates.
:)

Also I went to mount the rear wheels back on the car and one of the tires were flat already.
I filled it back up with air and poured water on it to try and find the hole.
Turned out that the wheel is leaking from around the bead bad.
Looks like I am gonna dismount the wheel and sand the inside of the wheel more and lay down some bead sealer.
When I painted the wheels I sanded the inside of the wheel near the face of the wheel.
The leaking is on the back side of the wheel where I did not sand lol.
I guess when I paint the front wheels Ill sand down both sides.
