Hi - Been lurking for a while. Awesome forum!! I have purchased various parts from members here. One of the few mopar forums where people ask reasonable prices for their stuff. Just great. Thank you

I am a huge mopar enthusiast with a couple of mopars but am new to ABodies. I am considering purchasing this car (no motor) and doing a modern 5.7 hemi swap.

What are your thoughts on the car? Questions i should be asking? Does anyone here know this car?

Sure....but please don't scoop this from me until I have a chance to finish speaking with the seller. haha!

Was asking $10K now asking $8500 firm.

Oh no worries I'm broke =)

If you have the money for it, and like the car then I'd say go for it. I personally think $10K is a bit high for it because of no engine, but $8500 sounds better.

Hell ya go for it if it's as good as it looks but why the 5.7 and not a 440 that it's already set up for. A big block with a Dana in that 71 would be a life altering, tire smoking, woody making, wheel standing show that the ladies will love.

I would make sure that the frame rails and floor are solid. Is it a disc brake car? Are the wheels large bolt pattern? Did someone go through the front suspension on this "restoration"? When he says set up for big block, does that mean it has a big block K member or does it have Shumaker mounts?

Just some of the questions I would be asking. Looks pretty nice to me.

Thanks Brian. I am going to ask him those questions. Also:

This car is set for the strip currently. I will ask him what metal work was done to the car and what it would take to pass tech inspection to get it back on the street.

- wipers

- heater system

- how the fuel lines are run

- are the bumpers metal or fiberglass

In another picture the wiring under the dash is hanging down. Harness needs to be replaced?

I think $8500. is alittle high. You can find alot of nice looking running A Bodies for $8500. Jim

The car looks nice. Just needs a few odds and ends cleaned up. Does seem like a lot of money but anyone who has ever built a car knows everything costs money.

Thanks guys keep the comments coming.

So what would you guys say is a "fair" price for this car? Seems like a quality car and I don't want to look like the many lowballers that just wastes sellers time. Been on the opposite end and it wasn't much fun.
I want to offer him a fair bid if you feel $8500 is not market price for this car.

i.e. if YOU were selling this car, what would you think it is worth?

Jim - any examples or links you can send me on nice looking Darts around this price point? I like 69 - 72's. I haven't been able to find any in this condition under $10K.

Any help is appreciated. I just don't know the market for Abodies. Thanks

More info from seller from questions you guys posted. appreciate the help guys:

frame and floor are as clean as the outside of the car.
disc brakes up front,11x2 drums out back, all big bolt pattern.
when the car was restored in 2001 everything as far as frontend parts/bushing,all new

window,door,trunk rubber seals, all new
engine wiring new, dash used, but good condition
bumbers are steel(blasted then painted)
no heater box
I have the wiper motor and wiper(i can reinstall for buyer)
no horns( have them never put on)
car is setup for a bb using a motor plate,bb 727 also
car is set up for the street or strip(lights, brake lights, turn signals all work)
you shouldn`t have any problems with getting the car to pass inspection.
the fuel line in a 1/2 line .

when the car was restored it was stripped to bare metal, the undersibe the trunk, engine compartment even the inside of the car.
the only metal that was replaced was one for the trunk extentions.

Oh. Didn't mention what I want to do with car.

I want to be able to drive this car on the street, drive it to the track, do a few runs, then drive back.

Doable in this car?

Welcome to the site!
I think i've seen this car on moparts for awhile, it is a good looker.... I'm with Demonseed, put in a 440 and go have some fun! (maybe it's an Alberta thing lol)
If it's done up right, it's worth the 8500
You can put that in it and a lot more if you start with a car that needs a lot of work , trust me.
Good luck and keep us posted.
I'm not much for the newer hemis in an older car.... I'm old school i guess, Just my 2 cents.

I just posted my 440/727 combo in the for sale section. Just fully, professionally rebuilt, never installed or run. Same for the 727 trans (see ad if interested). Slightly warmed over and fully balanced. excellent street motor.
Pan would need to be changed to an A/C body type, I'd throw one in.

No to hijack the thread....but the BB is a better option to get it done quickly and with full reliability.

It truly is a nice looking car. That said, nice looking doesn't get you down the track or the street. It needs a ton of work to make it streetable. Worth 8500? I don't think so. That is strictly your call, remember you will put that much and more after it is yours and that is 0 dollars for labor.

I guess everybody has different definitions of streetable. Its about as streetable as my duster, except for the slicks. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in my car and drive 100 miles. It might not be quiet, have a heater, or wipers, but it goes and stops fantastically. and it has really big BALLS!

that is one sharp car. but i agree with everyone else, I think overpriced. Figure up the cost of everything the car has extra, pretty paint, roll bar, wheels etc. then check a comparible car price. That should help you. But remember It is not a crime to pay to much, as long as you dont let the seller rip you off.

I think it is a great looking car but $8500 does seam a little high. For me anyway. But like most things, if you have the money and you are willing to pay that for it, go for it.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to listen and take your advice as last time I bought an ebody, I didn't listen to the forum experts and got in over my head. Everything they said came true.

So if you were buying this car what would you pay? What's it worth?

This is only my opinion... After doing a little research I found many similar cars that would meet your needs. I just think 8,500 is way out of line, for me. You could buy numerous cars for that price that are running. Just look on e-bay and you will see some good examples. If you search the web you will find alot more. This car or any car is worth whatever you are willing to pay. It is a very nice looking car with a nice paint job a good rearend, mini tubs, 6 six point cage and nothing else. If you like it, buy it, that is all anyone can say. Most people wouldn't give me 8,000 for my car, but I wouldnt sell it for that or any amount of money. She is mine and I love her. If this is the car you like that is all that matters...
