I'm doing a 10.5" clutch conversion in a '64 Barracuda. Will I need to modify the tunnel to clear the 10.5" bellhousing?

No you don’t. Check with Brewers performance, they make an early-A 10.5” clutch conversion kit that makes this swap easy, I used it in my 66 and works and fits great!

Do you know what brand clutch you are going with? I went with the Centerforce II kit behind my 340 and love it, nice clutch pedal too and shifts great with the before mention parts.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I just scored the 3515734 bellhousing I need and I'm getting the conversion parts from Brewers.
I will definitely check out the Center force II kit.
Thanks again,
P.I.

I did have to hammer and flatten the pinch weld from the floor pan to the fire wall to get some clearance. The other thing to order from brewers is the clutch fork for that application. I'm running TTI headers and it's tight but doable.

I didn’t need a different fork but in the conversion kit was a clutch fork pivot bracket that changed the angle a bit and it works fine. I didn’t need to hammer the pinch weld in my 66, maybe that depends on which motor mounts you use? It’s possibly the OP might have to hammer his? I’m running Hooker super comp 63-66 headers on mine, some areas it’s tight too but no issues even after 14 years of use.

Did you just fold it over with a hammer?
Toward the front or back of the car?

I had no clearance issues with the pinch weld when I did mine. (64 Barracuda) I did mine before I knew about Brewers kit. I used a Z-bar from an A-body and shortened the cross shaft. Used the release lever from a B-body (11-7/8 OAL) with the fork pivot from the 273 bellhousing. I modified the z-bar bellhousing pivot to relocate the pivot ball on the bellhousing so it is directly across from the frame ball by welding it to a triangle piece of steel. It would have been really nice to get what I needed in kit form.

I folded it toward the back of the car. Initially the motor and trans went in without folding the seam but when I pulled the trans and motor out to repair a rear main seal leak I noticed there was a mark on the bell housing where the seam was rubbing away at the aluminum bell housing so that is why I folded the seam over. I am also running Shcumacher engine mounts and an Energy suspension trans mount.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go ahead and fold it over before installing it. Would hate to have to pull it and do it later.
