'1968' ~ 'The Way Mopar Should Have Been'

-
Had a fantastic new 69 Swinger with a 340 four speed. Raced that car for two years around Decatur, IL. The only cars to beat me on the street were a Hemi Cuda and a 454 Cougar. I can only hope that my current project, a 68 Dart, will come close to that car. Only time I had it at a track it ran an 8.72 in the 1/8th mile with tools and golf clubs in the trunk.

...i lived through the era
...not much stock that a stock 340 couldn't handle on the street

That is true.

But a 340 with 11.0-1 Compression and a 'Mechanical' Camshaft would have
been a nice 'addition' to tackle the 1968 Z-28 Camaro's in D/Stock for 1968.

Was that cuda one of those famous 383sixpack hemis? considering the availability of the 454 in cougars.

Would not surprise me if someone stuffed a Chevy 454 in a Cougar! Maybe he meant Chevelle?

just considering when 454chevys became available and how often they where swaped into cougars at the point in history when a 69 swinger was considered new:violent1::protest: feel free to correct my thinking process:burnout:

The 454

First came around in November 1969.

I believe that Chevrolet {Leeds Plant} in Kansas City, shipped the
LS-6 over to the Ford Plant, so they were to be made available in the 1970 Cougar SS 454 as a 'special order only'.

I believe, that the 'special' Cougars only went to Decatur, Illinois.

Gino,

There was an assortment of Camshafts available for the Mopars in
1968.

If you had the Part #'s, you could get them through Chrysler Special Parts.
