1969 Barracuda w/ Experimental 360 engine


A friend mine said he bought a Barracuda 1969 and was told by the dealer in 1969 that the car came with the experimental 360 engine in it.


Is that possible???? New from the factory???

360 came out mid 70 (Aug?) for the 71 model year so the tooling was probably in place by early 1970. 69's were built through July of 69, then the 70's were on the line. Nothing experimental with the 360, it was just a stroked 340 with a shorter 4.00 piston, and larger crank bearings as the 340 water jackets were still used. Cast cranks were already used as well as dynamic balancing.

Check the casting date on the block. Weren't there some 360's with 1969 casting dates?

It's been about 50 years since the 1969 models hit the showrooms; if it was true, you'd think that information woulda leaked out by now....
