1969 Dodge Dart GT Convertible Stock Resto

Dear FABO,

This projected started off with so much excitement and energy, it is sad to see how far the train has run off the tracks. My mother unfortunately has fallen victim to the same scam that many of us have. The guy that was "supposed" to do the work has bailed and left the car a typical "basket case." In my opinion we was paid too much for amount of work actually completed. However after a long negotiation process and with some persistence of some good friends, my Mother has obtained possession of the car, minus about $900 of replacement fenders that are in a "storage unit somewhere."

I have been busy for the last 12 months remodeling a 175 year old home and moving my wife and two young children in. With that finally wrapping up, I am ready to jump back in and help my Mom take control and put back together her dream car. Unfortunately, where I moved I only have a dirt floor barn with no electricity and thus am limited to the amount of work I can do myself.

My Mother is looking for a trustworthy body man who is willing to take this project on for a fair price and put this project back together.

Here is a status:

The car is completely disassembled and sand blasted.
The trunk, hood, and two doors are mudded and primed.
The car still needs some rust repair and replacement rear quarters.
The car needs frame connectors welded in.
The car needs fully primed and painted.

The Motor tranny and k frame are all out of the car. The motor and tranny have both been rebuilt.

We really need a body man who can fix the rust repairs, mud, prime, and paint.

My buddy and I can assemble the car and get it running again no problem.

Please PM me with name and number for someone who may interested in doing the work who is trustworthy and around the Columbus Ohio area.

Thank you!

Man, so sorry for the set back. Hope you can arrange for a suitable bodyshop to finish this. I'm excited to see how this turns out. I'm no where near you, but this would be an interesting project for me( assuming the money would follow).

Thank you. We will keep you in mind. I think the drive looks to be about 7 hours.

what kind of blaster did you use? sorry about the setback

It was sand blasted by a third party. I am not sure what material he used. Also was not primered right away, so I am sure some of the surface rust will have to be taken back off.

I will get some pictures this week and post them.

Hello FABO,

As you can see the car is in the garage, the front half is on blocks.

I tried to get some good pictures to show the scope of work. Hood, trunk, and both doors look almost ready for paint. Front fenders still need work and the rear quarters have not been done at all. Car also needs two patches in the floor under driver and passenger front and since it is a convertible we want to add frame connectors.

Again we are looking for referrals for a shop or one man band who can take on this project and get it painted and ready for reassembly.

Thanks,

We starting the project back up again! Hooray! Seems like forever ago when we started this project. Now things are getting back on track.

The car got hauled off today to Abe's Automotive in Granville Ohio. Fred Abraham is a well known restorer and painter in these areas and we hope he can work his magic to get my Moms convertabile straight and working again.

Here are some pics of the car getting hauled away.

Looking forward to see the reslt of their work! Are you goingto assemble it yourself?

We may do it ourselves. Depends on Abe's sechedule and price. The motor has been sitting on an engine stand for 2 1/2 years. We are going to mate engine and transmission together on the newly powdercoated K frame and put it on a rolling stand so we can slip it under the car when ready.

Here is a picture of the powder coated K Frame.

Things are finally moving along at the body shop.

I will be putting the engine tranny and k frame together on a home built dolly tomorrow.

Looks like the car is making some progress now, hopefully things run much more smoothly for you this time around. I'm looking forward to watching your Mom's car get finished.

Things are really moving now. Car is ready for paint. Going for the original B3 Blue. We are now working on gathering up all the interior parts that we need. It is a really long list.

Anybody know if there is a vendor making the rear interior door panels for the convertible?

Also trying to find the Dart-GT emblem shown in the pictures?

I will have to get on here and post more often as things pick up

The GT emblems are readily available at Firestone collectibles on ebay, and I purchased my vert interior side panels from Layson's. Check out my thread, I've been where you are now and it may help. If you need any more info, just drop me a line
