I got this car early this spring, She was in pretty rough shape mechanically. It had seats out of a jeep halfway bolted in it, a chopped up rally dash with damaged gauge clusters, an automatic shifter console sitting on the floor with a shoddily "bolted down" Rusted out B&M Shifter and nothing worked, No lights, no turn signals, no gauges, car wouldn't go into park, leaked oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. the exhaust consisted of 2 muffler pipes dangling/dragging on the ground attached directly to the headers. Had the wrong radiator in it, dash wiring and under engine harness was a total cobble job, starter wasn't bolted down, and the bell-housing was missing 2 bolts. Brakes barely work at all. When it comes to the body, the car wasn't awful, needs some quarter panel work behind the wheel wells, and the car had lots of dents on the front and rear valance as well as the fenders. Hood was slightly bent, headlight bezel was cracked up, no carpet, headliner was just plain cardboard, and the floor had some minor Swiss cheese. very dirty, very musty, but VERY fixable.

Before i go any further I'm going to highlight my goals for this car so there's no confusion. This car was originally a slant 6 car and is not numbers matching or anything special like that. I'm not trying to make a show car, and I'm not going for a 100% Factory nut and bolt restoration. My goal is to make this car look like it could have looked in 1970 if the owner had done some custom work to "make it his" I will not be douching it up with modern stuff that doesn't belong, but I'm also not shooting for 100% accuracy. I Just want to capture the spirit of a time long past in my own unique way.

For long windedness sake I'm just going to do bullet points from here on out of things ive completed and let the pictures do the talking.

-Installed new transmission and B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter

-Ripped out the junk jeep bucket seats and non correct console and replace with a Nice Condition Bench Seat

-Removed the chopped up Ralley dash and replaced it with a Dash that I refurbished and painted up to look like new.

-Removed the old discolored rotted out windshield and cracking rubber seal and wire brushed the channel out and sealed it in preparation to put in the new windshield and fresh rubber.

-Totally redid the wiring from the ground up both under the hood and under the dash. The under the hood was a nightmare, total spaghetti cobbled up with stuff that god knows what it went to. This was the single most time consuming aspect of the whole deal, and was the one major major hang up hindering progress.

-repaired/replaced a damaged tire

-rewired up the electric fuel pump and eliminated the atrocious looking "glowing rainbow missile switches" that were there originally.

-Eliminated the push button start run around and installed the proper neutral safety switch so the car would start off the key.

-Bolted down the starter that was just kind of dangling down with 1 bolt in it and a frayed tore up wire kinda stuck on it.

-Added a Body Ground to the battery under the hood.

- Acquired all the parts i was missing to make it a complete car.

- I'm currently doing some body work on a new hood, 2 fenders, and a door to get them ready for paint.

- Fixed transmission hose leak, oil leak, and coolant leak.

- Fixed the windshield wiper arms that were locked up and nonfunctional

-Installed Flowmaster 40 series true dual exhaust with 2 1/2" Pipes

-Upholstered the cardboard headliner with foam backed perforated vinyl

-Added an aftermarket smaller diameter, less dished steering wheel

-Removed the old worn out non functional heater box

- Fixed Headlights(high and low), Turn Signal switch, 4 ways, and brake lights all 100% Functinal

-Tuned the carburetor to get it running smoother

-Replaced the 8 inch air filter with a larger 14" one

Next thing on my plate is to reinstall the windshield so the car can sit without getting flooded and then i can go to work replacing some misc stuff under the hood, doing some floor pan repair, and then lots of sanding and priming the body sheet metal. Gonna start with the front end since i have all good parts that don't need any welding or major body work, then ill move back to the quarters and get those fixed right with new sheet metal. The car will eventually be Painted Sublime Green with a Black dual scooped hood and black vinyl top. Black bumblebee stripes on the rear.

Yeah i like it better, i would have kept it if it wasnt all chopped up tho.

Looks like one happy dog there ! Isn't it a great feeling to bring back a car from the dead ? Good job !

Lots of cussing yelling and throwing wrenches. but at the end of the day when you step back and look at your work its a very unique feeling

Been having a really bad day so I shut off my phone and went to work on the car to get my mind off ****. I got the dash fully installed and the electric fuel pump rewired. Put the Steering Wheel back on, and bolted the gauge cluster in place. I topped off the tranny fluid, installed the new fully charged battery, removed the bad thermostat that was keeping the coolant from cycling, and fixed all the hose leaks. Everything works except the turn signals since i fried the switch, waiting for a new one.

And now for the big announcement...I GOT TO DRIVE IT!!!!

The transmission needs some adjustment on the shift points, and the speedometer needs dialed in but boy oh boy i finally got to go for a test drive and it feels like a real car. All the fuckery has finally been reversed and now i can focus on the restoration of the body and general maintenance.

Im just getting started, Summer weather keeps me from accomplishing much...im too damn fat for that sweatty stuff lol. Once autumn hits and those 60 degree high days start youl start seeing real progress.

UPDATE: 10.16.2017

The car started running incredibly poorly and laid down on me, Further inspection showed that the previous owner had removed the weights from the distributor and the distributor itself was totally junk. Bought a new one and installed it, complete with all new spark plugs and upgraded from 7mm to 8.5mm plug wires from Jegs. Got the car back in time and running STRONG. After that i removed. Installed the new windshield and rubber gasket, as well as replaced the front grill, bumper, headlight bezels, and valance panel with some old ones i restored. Got a new fuel tank and sending unit ordered. Should settle my gas leak and non functioning gas gauge issue.

Yep its amazing how badly people can screw up a car thinking they are mechanics. Reversing or fixing all the previously screwed up stuff is what i call unfucking it. Theres so many i have bought in the past, and the first thing i end up doing is sliding the trash can up next to em and filling it with screwed up wiring, and everything else.

i bought the car for 2900, im up to 7200 right now and as you can see the only money ive spent on cosmetic restoration is a little bit of paint and primer. the other 4000$ went straight into unfucking stuff that was supposed to be in order.

I fixed wiring on a 72 swinger for a coworker. The prev owner hacked into everything, and daisy chained **** together with scotch lock connectors. It was awful. Nothing worked but the headlights and running lamps. I shitcanned all the non stock wiring, then went from there. Took me 2 hours without a schematic and nothing but a light tester, volt ohmmeter, and alligator clip jumpers to trouble shoot, then solder and mend everything make the horn, signals. Brake lights, dash lights, and licence plate light work again. Sheesh some peoples kids.

Heres the thing, you will know it was done right, and will run n drive decent. How many finished "show boats" are out there with sins in them? You buy one done, and then your always guessing. Even if your planning on different hoops. You should scuff and repaint the rallyes, and shine up the center caps, maybe get new chrome acorn lug nuts, and slap some cheezy whitney or evilbay beauty rings on em. An afternoons worth of work w some rustoleum, and some dull aluminum krylon, and it will brighten up the sides of the car alot. You have an advantage you already have a sporty set of rims. Some folks start out w steelies.

BTW do you still have the center console from it?

Question, was the old dash frame cut up for the rallye dash? If you replaced it with another that wasnt cut up, did you keep and reinstall your cars original vin tag to the new dash frame you got.

I sold the chopped up ralley dash to someone who thought they could fix it, i just took the vin tag off and put it on my new dash.

As for the console, I traded it to a guy for a The Bench seat.

Ever get that switch out i asked you about? I need to buy those vin tag rivets for one of my cars as well. I have a 69 cuda. I got the vin that goes with it but the dash frame was sold out of it before i got it. Luckily the prev owner removed the vin before selling the dash frame out of it, and handed me the vin tag w the bill of sale. I got another dash frame for it. Need to strip, and paint it, and attach the vin.

nope i didnt D: i was afraid to pull my gauge cluster out because its already all cracked to hell and back from putting it in so i kinda gave up lol.

While i was waiting for my new Fuel tank and sending unit to arrive i decided to install my new all chrome Edelbrock valve covers to match my carb and air cleaner. Went fairly smooth, and inside the motor was looking very clean. That was a pleasant surprise.

Never liked the magnum valve covers myself. I'm glad they left the 5 original bolt holes in the same locations and just added 5 more. This way you can run old skoool valve covers on magnum engines.

Are you gonna eventually put a heater back in, or A/C
