Old Question. But is there a definitive list of rear tire fitment for 1970 Duster with 14/4 rim/lugs? Wondering what size tires will fit on 14 x 8 Rallyes with 4 5/8 backspacing?
Would like wheels/tires to fit with no other mods. Any photos of options would also be great! Thanks.

A 275 mm wide tire is the widest you can go without mods on a Duster/Demon/Dart Sport body. Height wise anything shorter than about 27” should work with no mods. Up to 28” tall works if you center the rear axle in the wheel wells, but that usually means moving the axle back about a 1/2”.

14x8 with 4 5/8 of backspace should be fairly close to what you need to run 275’s if you have an 8 3/4 rear axle. You’d have to measure your car to be sure, the spring to wheel mounting surface is the measurement you want.

Unfortunately, good luck finding anything near that size. Even BFG TA’s only go up to a 245/60/14 now. Coker makes a 265/50/14 but that’s only a 24.5” tall tire and they’re $310 each. Not a lot of options for radial street tires for a 14” rim anymore.

But what's your bolt pattern? Not much for the 5on4. I had a 15x8 4.5" back space and 255-60. On a 73 Duster 340 It was the 8.25 rear end.

What about wheel adapters to get him to 5x4.5? Are they worth it or do they just create other problems? I've never used them but known some who have. Seems like most people love em or hate em.

Depends on the wheel adaptor. The cast aluminum ones from Trans-dapt are terrible. There is not enough material around the studs and they end up cracking. Which turns a lot of people off of spacers/adaptors completely. But like anything else, if you buy good parts, like an adaptor made from billet aluminum, and follow the damn directions, like making sure they're torqued properly and periodically checking to make sure they're still torqued properly, they'll last forever and never cause you any issues.

Good ones look like this

Death on a stick looks like this (look how little material is around the back of the studs!!!!!)

The problem with ALL of them is that they widen the track width. The good ones are usually 1" thick, which means that you need to add 1" to the backspace of whatever everyone else runs for a particular wheel/tire combination. That usually means custom wheels if you want large tires. And at that point, you should just convert to BBP the right way with new brakes and axles.
