I have a fresh 340 that's been rebuilt .I've heard that 73 are externally balanced. I thought all 340s and 318s were intetnally balanced. Thanks for info.I have a used. Crank in my engine .

73 were cast crank external balance.. They used a special front balancer and flywheel

My engine has a new balancr on front .im thinking I. Have a older crank in a 73 block so shouldn't be an issue should I drop the oil pan or just talk to my machinist

If you knew if it were cast or steel crank then you would be set..Steel is internal but I think you need to see the parting line width on crank to tell.. Someone else will chime in here though

Talk to your machinist to find out if it was a cast or forged crank, or you could drop the pan, but then you will need another gasket
