1970

The F in the block serial number (not to be confused with the partial VIN) is the Series - 1970 model year.

The partial VIN will be on the passenger side of the block, down low.

J, O, U & Z heads are all 915 castings, It is common to find the letters mixed on original cars.

F - Series (1970 model year)
W - Windsor, Ontario Canada engine assembly plant (all 1970 340s)
340 - CID
P - Premium fuel recommended
3104 - Engine final assembly date - Jan 26, 1970
0347 - 347th engine assembled at the plant above on the date above.

I would say the engine went into a 1970 car. There should be another set of numbers just above the oil pan rail on the passenger side with a number- a letter-and 6 numbers. This would be the last 8 of the VIN of the car it came in originally. According to the 10000 day calendar the engine was completed on 1/26/1970

Took me to long to finish my reply so now I'm late to the party....I hate that.....

how did you come up with the date from 3104?

thanks for the answer and sorry about the party, just hope you do not miss it!

The date used is from the 10,000 day calendar.

The partial VIN is on the passenger side, down low. Above the oil pan rail & about mid-way front to back. Look for a machined flat pad with a 0 a letter & six more numbers.

0 - Model year - 1970

B - Hamtramck plant (where the car it went into was made)

It came from a 1970 Challenger, so possible VINs would be JH23H0B281337 or JH27H0B281337.

Did you buy it from Greg?

I record a lot of data with the 1970 Hamtramck Registry.

I'll edit my note in the database just in case the original car it came from surfaces so I know to contact you instead of Greg.

I found this post interesting to me - numbers are pretty close - as close as I have ever seen posted. FW340P31220183 with a vin of OB259831. not original to our car. have always been curious what it may have been original to. just pretty cool to me. what is it 18 days apart .

Do you many VIN numbers stamped backwards? The vin on my trans is backwards. The characters are facing the right direction,,but in reverse,,and my dad was original owner, so i know its the original trans,,im assuming its a mistake?

New number to me, but it is from a 1970 Cuda. Possible full VINs for the car would be BS23H0B259831 or BS27H0B259831

I have not seen any backwards - yet. Got photos of the block number & the transmission number?

Some of the errors myself & others have seen & / or sent in can be seen at The 1970 Hamtramck Registry "Factory Errors (Pg. 1)" Page
