Building a 1978 la 360. Got around to installing the oil pump. pro seal rebuid kit. the gasket kit doesn,t have a gasket in it. The old pump looked like it had a gasket. does it need a gasket? on the internet some said not to use a gasket. is it ok for me to cut one out of an old ceral box. If not where can i buy?
any suggestions or information would be greatly apprediated.

Just pulled pump off my 318,no gasket, none in kit.

I was told years ago not to use one, even if the kit had one.
I'd check and make sure mating surfaces are flat, but leave out the gasket.

Never use them.

If it fails you have a bad loss of pressure and volume.

ok guys. going without a gasket. Its a melling high voluem pump. was running about 50lb pressure at idle. So it probable could stand a little leakage without a gasket.
Thanks for information.

As has been stated no gasket needed. I'm local and your welcome to contact me if you need anything.

Run it without gasket. Check the space between the oilpan and pump, i had to modify my pan for the melling hi volume pump.

I always run them.
I get my gaskets from this guy, he is reasonable on the gasket, and his shipping is actually reasonable.
I normally buy them at a 1/2 dozen at a time.
