I am hoping to find someone here in FABO that can help me with my 4 spd transmission. I took my tranny to a mechanic so he can rebuild my tranny, luckily everything internally looked fine, he had it for 4 months, after coming to check up on it. he was procrastinating on putting it back together, so I took it away from him for being impatient. so, can anyone here in the bay area help me out on putting it back together, pleaaaaaaaase. I am in Hollister ca. :)

There's a 4 speed rebuild thread around here somewhere.

Oh and take a good pic of yourself for an avatar. You look like you're ready to take one for the team in that pic.

a factory service manual is a giant help.

I rebuilt a transmission my father tore apart 30+ years ago and left it in a box because he did not know how to get it back together. The service manual was a HUGE help and if you can follow the diagrams and piece together the pieces it will go back together. There are a few special tools and the one high on the list is a good pair of snap ring pliers.

i have bought 4 speeds in pieces before and what i usually do and what i would do in your case is first verify you have all the pieces.

Mopar muscle did a real easy to follow article on it ...i used to use this article the first few times i rebuilt 4 speeds to double check everything went together right.

i have a 70 factory service manual if you need pics or any particular info ....here is the inventory list from the service manual you can use to verify all the pieces are there.

I got ya, buddy.

We got your trans all pulled apart this morning. Today I'm cleaning all parts, I'll strip and paint your cases as well. Your syncros look great, but your tail shaft bearing was SHOT! Hence the noise you were experiencing. LOL

Once we receive the bearings & rollers, bushings and seal kit, we should have it together at the end of the week.

Just some pics of disassembly, cleaning parts and such.

These guys are good to deal with when ordering replacement parts.
Once you get all the required numbers from the gearbox and figure out what you have (see Brewers link), it will all make sense and easy to buy stuff.

Best to order yourself a workshop manual too , you can get cheap CD copies on Ebay or print the pics above.
