I have two "more" Dakotas LOL

1....(black) 5.2 s auto 4x4.....Pinion broke/ nut came loose, tore up the rear end, driveshaft whipped and BROKE THE TRANS CASE (not the transfer case "I hope.")

2..(white) V6 auto 4x4........front/ cab/ bed wrecked I was thinking of dropping the entire drive-train into the black one "to drive" or maybe sell

OR mate the trans/ transfer to the existing 5.2. IS THERE A WAY to mate a 904 based (42/44RE/A500) to a 5.2V8? I guess balance is not an issue as the converter is already neutral. But what to do for a flex plate and remember the EFI trigger wheel is integral with the flex plate.

3.9 v6 trans likely a 42RE will bolt right up to 5.2. Need computer from 5.2 automatic truck of same year.

What years are you talking about?

The 239 v6 is the same block bolt pattern and uses the same trans as the 5.2 for the same year.

Not talking about the block, I know that. I'm talking about the flex plate/ trigger wheel. A V6 wheel is not going to trigger a V8. These are approx 98, so they are both RE, not RH.

Only reason I'm contemplating this is "quick availability" of parts LOL

I MAY be able to come up with another good A918 instead, behind the V8

No it does not. The V8 is the larger 727 based A518/ 46RE

The V6 is the smaller A904 based A500/42/44RE

I'm not sure there is even a way to do this without hacking parts (redrill a 518 flex?) or aftermarket??

The 5.9 uses the 727 based 518.
The 5.2 & 3.9 uses the 904 based 500.

After more study
In 98 the Dakota with the 3.9 or 5.2 could of had the 42re, 44re or the 46re.
The 5.9 got the 46re.

my 99 dodge 1500 with 5.2 magnum has a 46RE in it.....that is the 727 based overdrive trans.94
95 Dakota V6 has the 42RH
94 Ram 2500 5.9 has 46RH....

I "believe" that is the problem. Don't think they interchange? Neither is apart, I don't have a A500 to compare that's apart.

After much researching I found that the pioneer FRA527 flexplate works on the 5.2 with all 3 trannys. re42,re44,re46
In which case your flexplate should work.

Thanks for your trouble. I guess I won't know until/ if I get them side by side. It's buried, but I do have a V6 older RH series "somewhere" if I can find the converter I can measure the bolt circle

i believe the 5.2 flex plate will work with the v6 42re. my 5.2 had the 46re on it. 904 bolted right up. had to elongate one hole for the converter. trailbeast put a v6 42rh on his 5.9 magnum.
