Hey guys....

My brother is wrapping up a 44 swap into his '73 Dart Sport.

Needless to say it took longer and cost more(to do it right) than he ever envisioned, but it's nearly finished now.

The problem we've encountered is that the starter sounds HORRIBLE. It appears to be binding, and it takes a good battery and jump box to get it to turn the engine over fast enough to fire off. It also shrieks on overrun, as the engine starts to catch and run.

This is an old-style large frame starter that was working fine on the 318 that was removed prior.

The clutch is a Mcleod 10.5", and bellhousing is for this application, both sold by Brewer Performance.

Any help greatly appreciated.

it's going out, I bet at night that you can see the solenoid glowing.

get a new starter and or a new style mini starter off a newer truck, however do a search on the connections, it's said that they hit the block some, except one style or a mod to fix the other.
