I am trying to see what heads I have on my car and if there the good ones or not. I only number I seen was 2408518?

The early to mid 60's 516 and 915 were both closed chamber heads and gave you almost a full point in compression over the open chambered heads like the late 60's 906 and early 70's 452. They both however did originally come with a small exhaust valve 1.60 and most of the time were changed over to the large 1.74 (standard in the 906 and 452) exhaust valve, yes they are my favorites. As long as yours has the large valves you're good to go.

Woo finally a break on the engine. some good heads. I will have my engine guy check when he tears it apart

If you really want to spruce it up get rid of those stamped steel rockers, they were typically not 1.5 ratio but closer to 1.45-1.4. Therefore lets say with a .509" cam instead of having .509 push at the valve stem with a true 1.5 rocker you end up with .492-.475 at the valves. I've measured them on a couple occasions and they are that far out. Ductile iron rockers are a good replacement or crane roller or I'm running Hughes roller rockers. You need to custom length your push rods but it's worth it and noticeable.IMHO:D

ya I am going to tear it all apart and put new cam, lifters and all that other good stuff. Lower end already has billet crank rods and flat top pistons

.............516 heads only came on 383s....not on 440s....have 208 and 160 valves factory.....closed chamber.........kim.......

i begged to differ oldkimmer those 516 heads also came on 413 in 64, as far as rest yes there a closed chamber head with no flow, the thought after 915's were your 383/440 magnum heads!!!! 516 were a dime a dozen, if your going to stay with iron heads step up i'd go to a 906/452's to bring your compression down to like a 9.8/9.5 ratio so you can actually drive it, 516 closed chamber and 915's were on your 10.25/ 10.50 compression motors when you could get gas to run'em back in the 60's/70's with no pinging!!!

ya there no way I can afford heads cam and all the other stuff this time. There fully ported so there just going to have to work for now

I agree with Demon Seed. I'm also a big fan of the closed chamber heads.
I'm also on board with his idea of getting a set of "real" rocker arms. I would stay clear of the no-name imported ones. Go with Crane or Hughes ect.

Chrysler overstated compression ratios back then , an advertised 10.0 engine was more like 9.0 .

516's were also put on 440's in 66 and 67
