I might be picking this car up sometime soon, and I was just wondering what is up with it. It's a 66 Barracuda, /6 auto on the column. It appears to have a factory tach in the dash. Any reason? It's an automatic /6 car.. I thought a tach would really only come on say a Formula S Commando car? Or is it just some sort of performance indicator? Teach me!

Thats not a tach. Its what Chrysler called a "performance indicator". Doesn't do much but looks cool. All it does is monitor the vacuum, its hooked directly to a vacuum port on the intake. I guess it was either that, or a clock, but they were saving those for the Imperials and 300s. lol

It is a performance indicator, it shows engine vacuum. Quite a few Chrysler products had them in the mid-60's. If your used the accelerator pedal gently, the needle would stay in the 'economy' range, and you would be getting better gas mileage.
