Been looking for a 8 3/4 rear end but here a late model ford explorer rear axle will work great. What do you think or know that I need to know. Thanks for your help.

Chris

There is a guy on Club Hotrod that uses the 8.8 posi out of an expleror for all of his builds because they are 3:56 or 3:76 gears and disc brakes. He has had great luck putting big HP through them.

Guy on Moparchat is doing the same build and found a few things:
Brake proportioning valve, fully adjustable needed to turn rears WAY down
driveshaft length and grafting a Ford end to the Diff side
E-brake cables, changing the length of the master cable, or both
4.5 bolt pattern to the 4.0 on the stock front
Some say they are not as strong, not usually an issue behind an LA.
2 inches wider and spring perches need moving (just weld new ones on, leave old ones as they are not in the way)
Clearance is tight even for a 8 3/4 by the gas tank, 8.8 might be issue too.
Why do you want disk's in the back? (Richard Ehrenburgh says dont waste your time) IF this is all for a cheap posi-esque rear, might be cheaper just to get a SG center section for your 7.25, they are out there.

Have you looked into an 8 1/4? Pretty common in '73 and up a-bodies and they are about 11/16" narrower than a 7 1/4.
