l got into a discussion today with a gentleman who has a 72 Demon 340 automatic. He thinks it came with a 904 trans. I was under the impression that all 340’s came with 727 standard equipment. I asked to see his fender tag and it says E55, D34. Any decoding I have found says standard or light duty Torqueflite, but doesn’t specify if it’s 904 or 727. Can anyone verify what trans D34 was in a 72 340 Demon, with literature to back it up?

No 340 came from the Factory with a 904...all came with a 727.

I'm sure someone will chime in. Swear up & down. And say there Uncle had a factory rare one with a 904. Give it a few more posts. Lol

What I’m really looking for is some kind of literature or proof of D34 trans code in 72, because I really hate to be wrong, but I’ve also got to back it up!

I'm sure someone has what that code means but you can rest assured no 340 left the factory with a 904 behind it. 727 was it if you got an automatic.

I own a 72 Demon E55 - D34 car. The trans is a 727 & matching #s to my VIN
