Can someone post a picture of the bracket that mounts on the 727 transmisson for the column shift, cross shaft to go through... I might have one, but not sure which one it is for the A-Body set-up...

They are the same for 727 and 904 and should have a plastic snap in gromment/bushing in it for the shaft.

I have one for the 904 trans, and it is not the one in the diagram... I pulled a complete setup from a 1971 dart with a 318 and a 904 trans... I know that they are not the same for 904 and 727. The one in the diagram might be the one I am looking for, but it looks like a B-body one too me... Anybody have a 340 a body column shift with a 727 trans, that can verify if the bracket in the diagram is correct? Thanks for the help...

I know that they are not the same for 904 and 727.

There is a TON of information out there that disagrees.
The place I got that picture from even says A-727, A-904 and A-999
Maybe a different year, but if you have the tab with the hole on the side of the trans it takes that bracket.

I have a 318/904 in my car that I just removed all that linkage from, and it is exactly that bracket.
It's sitting right here in a coffee can.

Here is a 727 linkage also.
How does yours look different?

X2.. here is the correct 904 trans bracket. I should still have a pic of the correct 727 trans bracket and will post or e-mail it to you.

Just slip one on your trans and if it's level your good to go.The real problem is the cross shaft..the 727 is wider so the cross shaft is about 1" shorter. You will have to cut an inch out of a 904 cross shaft and re weld it..make sure you index it prior to cutting.
...a cross shaft for a column 340/727 is a hard to find. You can force a 904 one in and make it work but won't fit quite right.

as for the bracket..it is also hard to find.i think the correct one is the one also found on some vans.
seems to me i installed a 904 bracket below the tab on the trans. to make the cross shaft level and had to do a bit of filing too.

The one on my 68 904 wouldn't fit right on the 72 727 I have. Another one of the many reasons I used the 904.
