hi guys just wondering is the 8 1/4 differential the same width as the 7 1/4?

But total may be the same because of brake shoe width diff.

A Body 8.75, 8.25 and 7.25 are all the same width spring perch to perch. Overall width outside of the drum to drum will probably be different (not by much though)
The 5x4.5" big bolt pattern 7.25 and the 8.25 are the same width. The SBP 7.25 may be a little different from the BBP 8.25.
There's a sticky that has all the widths, including some of the 7.25 and 8.25" widths. The difference between the BBP 7.25, 8.25, and 8 3/4 is enough to change your backspace requirements if you're maxing out tire width.
