I have come across a 8 3/4 out of a d100. My question is how hard would it be to fit it under my 70 swinger? What all would have to be done? I currently have a 7 1/4. Or would it be easier to get a 8.8 out of a 98 and newer exploder? I eventually want to put a 440 in my car and I know the 7 1/4 won't stand up to that.
Any help would be appreciated.

use it as a cutter and dont buy the axles. Just buy some stock A 8 3/4 axles here and cut to fit. Some vans had SG's. That is where I found one of mine.

Depends on your welding ability but realistically if you must shorten the housing/axles and you don't have the equipment and or knowledge compare the actual costs involved in building axles. Most of the time you can buy an a body housing for the price of shortening and shipping. The truck gears are probably 3.55 or 3.91 which are good gears. Some will tell you to go with8.8 cheap disc brakes but not a bolt in and when you pay to get it to the "bolt in" stage you have money tied up in it. Get all the prices that you can in your area because shipping can break the bank.

He has it for sale for $100 and if I can find a shop around where I'm at I will get them to narrow it. I haven't done much with gears and axles so I'm a little lost. For $100 I don't know if I can pass it up

Is that the one in pea ridge?

Some truck and station wagon axles are not tapered and can be resplined. I believe Moser can respline them and narrow your housing for you, once you decide what width you want.

The spring perches are same width as abodies but.....they are on top of axle. Unless you want the backend 3-4 inches up in the air you got to move them.

Great! If these are original axles they can be cut and resplined.
