Cummins Inc. (CMI) announced the launch of a new a 5-liter V8 diesel engine, ISV5.0, which will be produced from the fourth quarter of 2014. This engine will be installed in power pickup-and-delivery vehicles, other light- and medium-duty trucks, school buses and motorhomes. The new engine will offer enhanced fuel efficiency and performance and help reduce emission.

Cummins ISV5.0 engine is armed with industry leading technology and offers better performance at a low total cost of ownership to customers in North America. The ISV5.0 will be produced in the Columbus Engine Plant, along with the 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel for pickup trucks.

Cummins ISV5.0 engine comes with a compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder block, high-strength aluminum alloy heads, forged steel crankshaft and composite valve covers. Thus, it offers high durability along with lightweight packaging. With these features and the dual overhead camshafts, Cummins ISV5.0 engine helps minimize roughness, noise and vibration. In addition, the ISV5.0 engine is small enough to conveniently replace V8 or V10 gasoline engines.

The new ISV5.0 engine of Cummins will be available to customers in the U.S and Canada. It will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s :)EPA) emission requirements related to NOx and PM. Cummins also expects that the engine will satisfy the greenhouse gas standards till 2016, and 2015 Air Resources Board standards, including on-board diagnostics.

In September, Cummins announced the introduction of the G Series platform, a global heavy-duty engine platform. It features an in-line six cylinder engine and will be available in 10.5 and 11.8 liter displacements. The G Series platform is expected to meet the global market demands and emission standards both on- and off-highway.

Cummins currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other stocks that are performing well in the industry include TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. (TRW), Allison Transmission Holdings, Inc. (ALSN) and Denso Corp. (DNZOY). All these are Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks.

too bad the ram 1500 isn't going to use that engine. I think I read somewhere Nissan is going to use it in 2015.

a v8 cummins would be cool but there is major torque advantages on an inline 6 diesel. that's why cummins has more torque (and HP) then duramax

Wasn't Dodge suppose to come out with a 4 cyl diesel for the 1500?

It has been a while since I seen the announcement but haven't seen anything new on their website.

The Ram 2014 1500 diesel option uses a VM 3-liter diesel, also used on the 2014 Grand Cherokee, with the eight-speed automatic; it is a state of the art engine. The VM is compatible with up to 20% biodiesel fuel (B20) and has a common-rail injection system, high pressure cooled EGR, and selective catalyst reduction; the diesel exhaust fluid system can maintain full power when fluid is low, and has a refill port under the regular fuel cap. The engine block and bedplate are made of compacted graphite iron, and has a structural aluminum oil pan; the heads have individual bearing caps.

HP 240 @ 3,600 Torque 420 @ 2,000
I think this is really close to the 5.0 Cummins diesel

Cool I hope the price on it is good.

Good for who is the question!

Here you go.. also shows that Nissan is going to use the V8 Cummins.

It works. Because for 2014, the Ram 1500 becomes the first light-duty truck to receive a new and shiny diesel, besting Nissan's Cummins-powered V8 Titan to market by at least a year when the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel goes on sale next January. And thanks to all the corporate synergy floating around in the air, Ram didn't have to go far to find a suitable engine.

the diesel exhaust fluid won't be introduced on the cummins trucks because they meet the regulations, and thank the lord for that

for those who don't know the downsides to it; chev has had it since about 2010; in the winter its not uncommon for it to freeze solid and split the tank open

the systems for it on other manufactures are prone to failure, and with chebby there solution is to replace parts until it works. the tank itself on a GM is worth somewhere to the tune of $1000

or they can be bypassed with a diesel tuner for $400! lol

Yep. And last a lot longer since its built with big parts because of the long throw of the inline 6. Cylinders a lot bigger too. The 5.9/6.7 Cummins were built for more heavy duty applications, not really for the Ram pickup. Thats why the run forever. I guess we will have to see how the 5.0 does as its a v8 and built for light trucks.

I live not far from where they build the Nissan Titan and they have had trucks running around here with that motor for a couple of years.
