I'm building a 1968 383 to go into my 69 Barracuda (originally 318). I got the project car with an empty engine bay and a 383 core, and this is my first auto restoration. I've now got a freshly machined block, fresh crank, fresh 906 heads (9.6:1 CR), new pistons... but not much else. I'm starting to pile up parts here and there. I know I need specific parts for a BB conversion, like oil pan, engine mounts, headers, etc..

My question for this thread is about pulleys, belts, components, brackets, etc...
  • used parts are fine.. i buy plenty from fabo members
  • not a show car, just a hobby car with a good solid power plant
  • I DO want power steering
  • am told i do NOT need power breaks (I'm cool with that) for an A body
  • came stock with AC, but i'm not hooking that back up
  • Don't know exactly which alternator
  • Don't know which radiator.... most likely stock, but aluminum is also an option if the price and fitament are right
  • V groove, or serpentine belts, pulley diameter, old parts vs. new parts, etc??
  • do NOT have a fan yet either
  • do NOT have water pump

I'm just trying to get off the ground in the approach to the front side of the engine... get accessories first? Budget Boneyard kits from late models? or will i most likely have to start sorting everything out piece by piece? If that's the case... where to start?

I didn't see too much on this subject when searching.

Thanks for any advice.
Jason
