Looking at rebuilding my stock 340, running a ld340 intake with a holley 670 vac sec. carb in a 69 Dart, 727 tranny with a 3.23 suregrip. Looking for a good all around street machine with the occ. track run. Have not picked up a convert. yet but thinking of one in the 2800 range. Was going to do a stroker but with a clean block, might just go 20 or 30 over and do a clean-up of the unit. The 340 has not been bored out yet and is clean except for a couple cyl. that have some minor scratches. Any advise on this cam and what else should be done would be gratly appreciated.
The kit that I am looking at is

If you go 2800 on the converter with that gear, it will never be locked up at highway speed. IMO, not enough carburetor, not enough gear. You're talkin about a cam with 249 degrees duration @.050" ground on 107 lobe centers. That's pretty hot for a 3.23 gear. I think 3.91s would be much better suited and at least a 750 and maybe more, but stick with a vacuum secondary carburetor. It will be much quicker than a double pumper with an automatic. i would look at one of them new 870 Vacuum secondary carburetors. I honestly don't think that would be overkill. At least not with a good gear. Keep in mind the STOCK 340s had an 800 CFM Thermoquad from the factory. Just my 2 cents.

that cam has too much duration you need more like 224-230 with that gear and a 2800 conv. you will be much happier with it with even the 280h comp or the 268h comp is a real good street cam for your app. and i love a nice big lumpy cam,

Look at the Thumpr 279, it is a bit less of a camshaft and might be better suited for your application. Comps notes on it are can run a stock converter but works best with 2000 plus converter and some gears.
