Aluminum Radiator from Ledfoot Racing

Looking at a 22" alu radiator for my 71 scamp, gotta cool it better when my 360 magnum goes in. $230 shipped to my door.

Specs are as follows:

if i was you i would google alu radi. you can find them alot cheaper than that..i think summit and jegs has them cheaper than that just have to use ford style (same as mopar) and same size as well. i got 1 used on a diff. site for 100.00 car never gets over 180 with back to back runs at the 1/8 mile track:cheers:
 
you are right i forgot about that a 95 or something modal ford f150 has a nice radi in them my friend replaced his a while back and i was looking it over it would fit...hes truck is the fleetside is setside
 
just ordered a 26 inch ledfoot the other night... the 26s inchers were like 20 or some dollars cheaper it seemed? I liked there selling pitch though, and it seems pretty legit. Ill post some more about it and a few picks when i get it. maybe tomorrow or friday?
 
Got mine on ebay champion radiator 185 shipped to me and it bolted right in
 
I saw a few cheaper ones too, some looked exactly the same as the one from Ledfoot, but it seems all sellers are from CA, so I have to pay tax... :(

Most all good radiators disappear from the junkyards here fast (just like posi carriers, rack and pinions and good bucket seats) no point looking there unless I can go almost daily - nothing good or valuable hangs around too long

Originally I was thinking about the summit branded alu rad for $159, I have one in my '59 truck and it works great, but then I'd have to fab up brackets and run a separate trans cooler - for a few $ more this one should bolt right up

Would love to hear from anyone running one of these, specifically how much more efficient you noticed it being over a factory rad

That's because the cores all come from the same place.....;)
 
Hmmmmmm...... 3 row of 3/4" tubes. A two row with 1" tubes might be more efficient. I think I read that in Mopar Action fwiw. Most of the other rads that I've been looking at have been the 2 row 1" models.

Found this BMW single-row aluminum core radiator with plastic tanks and a single 1-5/8" wide core from a '99 740 - price is kinda high tho, perhaps a trip to the foreign junkyard is in order

So I kept looking and found this one at Rock Auto, from a '91 735i, a bit smaller and better fit for my Scamp; and bit closer in price, but still not the cheapest yet, although it has a trans cooler as opposed to the first Beemer rad I found - this is only $250 delivered

Otherwise this one from Summit looks practical and familiar, at $172 delivered it seems very affordable and it is a dual core with two 1" rows. I have the same one in my truck, it works really well and can drop the temp quick with my electric fan setup but requires a separate trans cooler at additional cost so it evens out in price with the Beemer rad from Rock Auto

I like the idea of a direct factory replacement fit, but better cooling is better cooling, period

Open to other ideas and opinions, thanks for all the replies so far...

Just throwing it out there if you are/were on a real tight budget and had a pick a part in your town.

mine cost $40 and has the trans cooler on the side, if I needed it.

$172 is a killer deal on an all aluminum radiator, go for it.
 
I got a buddy that bought a radiator from ebay ledfoot racing for 219.00.It was the best deal ever.No redrilling it fit right in and no overheating problems.It is a 3 core 22" radiator behind a 528 hemi.I think the differance is price,some people think that they got a name and that is what you are paying for.His car has been running for two years and been on two power tures with that radiator.I think thats reliability.I also bought one for my car. Griffin radiator is just up the road from me. I drove up there and talked to them about my car, engine size and intended use. I was going for the 3 row 3/4 tubes on my mind anyways. From talking to them a 2 row with larger tubes works much more efficiently. A lot of people go with the small tube 3 roll aluminum radiator but find that it drops out at a center point because there isn't enough flow. I bought the 2 roll 22" with 1.25" tubes. These radiators hold much more coolant. They aren't cheap but most of the time you get what you pay for. Please no flamers I'm just stating my experience I have had and what I learned from top radiator specialists. Here is there link.

Yes the summit alu rad for $172 delivered is a good deal, but then need to add a trans cooler like this one from B&M, bundled with the rad $225 delivered for both - but I still have to fab up brackets

I can cruise by Pick-A-Part next week, mostly all domestic here, we also have foreign specialty yards I can call, $40 would be nice, and only 1 component to mount - which on the Beemer rad looks quite easy actually
 
as far as the fab for the bracket just do like i did on the top there is a 1/2 deep pocket i just drilled 2 holes through the radi top and bootom and cut small rubber hose for vib. and botled it in no fab just great mind at work....
 
the griffin, afco, and northern are the top dogs if you want good quality, reliability, craftsmanship etc...at a price tag though! The champion is definitely marginal upon close inspection as in the welds might deter trophy judges but for daily driver if you choose the right one (big tubes and less rows) you should have a kick-*** radiator for a decent price!
 
Bought aluminum rad. For $127.00 shipped on ebay from radiator classics with trans. Cooler for my duster last month. Nice welds. Runnin nice and cool now!!
 
I purchased a Eagle Radiator off e-bay which is made by Champion and it was very twisted. They picked it up and sent me another one which was also twisted and I asked for a refund. The welds were nice but it was very twisted. Just make sure who you deal with has good feed back and will promptly help you if you need to return it. Jayson
 
I put a 26" 3-row champion radiator in my '67 barracuda with a 400 big block. Their aluminum shroud and fans weren't enough to keep my setup cool and the shroud blocked far too much air at highway speeds. My temperature actually started to climb on the freeway, something it's never done before.

Replaced their fans with a 17" thermal clutch fan and custom fiberglass shroud and now everything works great. After testing it out this evening the temperature never climbed over 185* while letting it idle for half and hour in my driveway.

The welds on this radiator are certainly not show-quality but it gets the job done. I would say stay away from their fan and shroud combos, but who knows, they may work on somebody else's combination.
