The timing marks on a '65 273 are different from a '74 318. Is the difference from the key way on the crank?

Thanks fabo!

yes...on the balancer they are different cause the timing chain covers are different..

65 has the marks on the passenger side...74 has the marks on the driver side.

They moved the marks 90° when they switched sides for the lower radiator outlet on the water pump.

Keyways on the cranks are in the same spot. The changes are in the timing covers and balancers. Atleast for me, the easiest way to mark the balancer for the timing cover, or mark both to be able to read them is to establish true TDC using a piston stop, then mark one or both. You can then add before or after marks as needed based on the cover's scale.
